1852 Index http://www.nornet.on.ca/~jcardiff/transcipts/1852index/index.html
In early 1852, a census was taken of all members of households in Ontario -- which was then known as Canada West.

The full Index is now online. It lists only head of households and strays, but will eventually link to details about each family member living in Charlotteville, Middleton, Townsend, and Walsingham, and the town of Simcoe. Houghton, Windham and Woodhouse township details will not be available online. Contact William Yeager curator@norfolklore.com at the Norfolk Historical Society for that information.

Each Index entry includes surname, given name, the Census page number where name was found, and the town or township name.

Marriage Notes for Charlotte Smithers and John Taber:
The divorce record states that John and Charlotte were married on Oct 1, 1856 in Port Rowan, Canada and that they have been residents of Redwood County since March of 1869 and that on Aug 14, 1874 Charlotte told the family that she was leaving forever, not to return to live with their father and would not "live with him" ever again. The divorce was applied for by John Taber on Oct 11, 1880, stating that the defendent was absent for more than three years (actually over six years). The judgement for this divorce was dated May 2, 1881.
In the affidavit by John Taber he states that "It is a matter of public notimely (?) in this community that my wife and one Thomas Barr a married man were criminally intimate before the date of said desertion and that they lived and cohabitat together for some months at Mankato Minnesota commencery soon after said desertion."
In the "Compaint for Divorce" document, dated Oct 11, 1880, the children of this union are listed as follows:

Elizabeth Ann 23, Charlott Louisa 21, Emma Sarah 19, Mary Ann 17, Caroline 15, Hellen Susan 13, William Charles 11, Minnie Rose 8.

In summary.......

John Taber and Charlotte Smithers were married on Oct 1, 1856 in Port Rowan, Canada, (John about 32 years old and Charlotte about 19) moved to Redwood Co., MN in March of 1869,

On Aug 14, 1874 Charlotte left the family and had been intimate with Thomas Barr prior to the desertion, and Thomas and Charlotte moved to Mankato, MN. (Charlotte age 37 and John Taber age 50, Thomas Barr age 49)

Nettie (Notta) Taber was born on Feb 14, 1875, father's name on birth record is John Taber for Charlotte and Thomas weren't married yet. (Charlotte age 38, Thomas Barr age 50)

Nettie would have been conceived in about June of 1874, if she was carried for the whole nine months, which is before the desertion by Charlotte.

Most likely Nettie is of Thomas Barr's blood, for this is probably why Charlotte felt that she had to leave. There is still a chance that Nettie is John Taber's daughter, however.

Charlotte and Thomas were married in Sioux City on Jan 08, 1879 (Charlotte age 42, Thomas age 54) and Hattie Barr was born on Jan 25th, 1879.

The divorce for John Taber and Charlotte wasn't finalized until May 1881.

Marriage Notes for Charlotte Smithers and Thomas Barr:
Woodbury County Iowa Marriage record states that Thomas and Charlotte were married on January 8, 1879 not January 5, 1875 as previous thought. Thomas and Charlotte were either content on not being married while Nettie was living with them, since she was John Tabor's natural daughter (possibly), or they got married in Minnesota before, but needed an Iowa marriage for the up and coming birth of Hattie 17 days later.
