Obituary:
("The Sioux City Journal" Wednesday Nov 12, 1879)

DIED

BARR - In Sioux City, Nov 11, 1879, at the residence of her son, Thomas Barr, Mrs. Mary Barr, in the 91st year of her age.
Funeral from the First Methodist Church this afternoon at half-past 2 o'clock. Services by Rev. J. H. Lozier. Friends of the family and members of the congregation are invited to attend without further notice.
The deceased was born in Flamborough, Yorkshire, England, in 1789. She came to this city from Chicago only a month ago, making the trip alone. Since arriving in this city she had been in failing health and for some days it has been plain to her friends that she had only come here to die.

Floyd Cemetery Sioux City, IA Alphabetical Listings lists "Mother of Thomas Barr". The Official Cemetery Records state that she was 88 years old at the time she was buried in "9/ /1880" Block 508-lot 1. The grave was purchased by a Thomas Barr on 9/4/1880. But Thomas and Charlotte Barr are buried in Block 199. This purchase and burial date does not match up with her death date of Nov 11, 1879 which is confirmed by Thomas Barr's handwritten notes as well as the Sioux City Journal obituary dated Nov 12, 1879.

Block 508 just so happens to be the same block number as Carl J. and Anna (Erickson) Fredrickson. No relation, just coinsidence.

MARY SIMPSON Female
Christening: 24 OCT 1790 Flamborough, Yorkshire, England
Parents: Father: JOHN SIMPSON

From Tony Barr:

I have found a John Simpson aged about 80 living in Flamborough at the
1841 census. Could be Mary's father - he would have been about 30 when
she was born. He appears to be the only Simpson living in Flamborough then.
