Generation One
1. John William1 SWIGER; Born circa 1730 at Germany; married Mary (--?--) before 1750 at
Germany.
He and Mary (--?--) immigrated to America from Germany and first settled in Loudoun County,
Virginia in 1755, where all but one child was born. Then they removed to Fayette County,
Pennsylvania. John William, during the Rev War was engaged in Mercantile pursuits, and had a
large distillery in Greene County, Pennsylvania, where he made a large amount of money. His
executors invested the money that was obtain by John William in a large track of land, in what
is now Barbour County, West Virginia. The heirs of this land failed to look after and pay the
taxes and revenues upon it, and the land reverted to the government. John William, finding that
his stock of wares was becoming short, and desiring to replenish it -- sailed back to his
homeland for that purpose, and was never heard from again. It is assumed that he was lost at sea
during this trip. Mary, his wife, then married Joshua Barnes Allen, a Scotchman and widower, who
had one son, Barnes, that was born in Scotland, who married Eve Swiger, the daughter of John
William and Mary Swiger. Mary and her second husband, Joshua Allen removed to the Katy's Run,
Clay District, Harrison County, West Virginia and then to the Allen Farm near Hepzibah, where
they spent the rest of their lives.[1]
Mary (--?--) married Joshua Barnes Allen after 1780 at Pennsylvania.

2. Christopher2 SWIGER; (John1); Born circa 1750 at Germany;[1] married Eleanor Bachus 24
Jan 1798 at Harrison County, West Virginia;[2] died after 1823 at prob Centerpoint, Doddridge
County, West Virginia;[3] buried at Sycamore Creek, Doddridge County, West Virginia.[4]
He was in the Revolutionary War and was discharged at Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh). He was
among the 10,000 Revolutionary soldiers, furnished by the Commonwealth of Virginia.[5] He and
Eleanor Bachus resided in 1798 at Katy's Lick Run, Sardis District, Harrison County, West
Virginia (which was granted him by the Commonwealth of Virginia. After living here for some
time, he removed the family to Centerpoint, Doddridge County, West Virginia, where he and his
wife lived in McClelland district the remainer of their lifes).[6] Christopher was interest in
hunting and that perhaps furnished the motivation for the move into Doddridge County where wild
game was still plentiful. He and his brother-in-law, Christopher Ash hunted other together.
About 1800 the two Christophers were hunting in the section now known as Sardis in Harrison
County. The two removed from Harrison County and settled in Doddridge County, where many of the
descendants still live today.[7]

3. John2 SWIGER Sr.; (John1); Born 25 Apr 1759 at Loudoun County, Virginia; married
Elizabeth Tetrick, daughter of Jacob Tetrick, 13 May 1794 at Harrison County, West
Virginia;[11],[12] died 26 Jun 1844 at Clay District, Harrison County, West Virginia, at age 85.
He was engaged in fighting Indians in the Rev. War in Pennsylvania, after which he removed
from Pennsylvania to Harrison County, West Virginia with other members of his family. After he
married, he settled down on what is now called the 'Old Swiger Farm' in Clay District, where he
became a pensioner in 1833, do to his part in the War, but soon was dropped from the roll in
1835, due to accout of points of technicality relative to his service in the War.[13] He and
Elizabeth Tetrick resided after 1794 at Coon's Run, near Boothsville, Harrison County, West
Virginia (known as the old Swiger farm).[14]
Elizabeth TETRICK was born on 30 Aug 1769. She died on 17 Sep 1843 at age 74.

4. Eve2 SWIGER; (John1); Married Barnes Allen, son of Joshua Barnes Allen and (--?--)
(--?--), at prob Harrison County, West Virginia;[16] born circa 1761 at Loudoun County,
Virginia;[17] died after 1820 at Hepzibah, Harrison County, West Virginia.[18]
She was (Her husband Barnes Allen, was a son of Joshua B. Allen, her step-father. They
first settled on the Allen family, near the old Hepzibah Church, till the death of Mr. and Mrs.
Allen, after which Barnes built another cabin on the farm on what is now known as the Allen
homestead, near Hepzibah).[19]
Barnes ALLEN was buried at Allen Cemetery, Hepzibah, Harrison County, West Virginia.[20] He
was born on 3 Mar 1757 at Scotland.[21],[22] He left a will on 18 Feb 1820 at Harrison County,
West Virginia, Exerpt from Will: Devisees: Eve, wife all moveable estate including negro woman
and child for her natural life or during widowhood and full use of home plantation, John, son
$400; Joshua, son, 150 acres of land at 3 forks of Middle Island Creek, now Doddridge County;
Israel, son, 150 acres on same fork; daughter Catherine, wife of Starling Barlett $10; Rebecca,
daughter, wife of Thomas Bartlett, $50; and Stephen, son, home plantation after death or
remarriage of widow. Witness were: John Righter, Josiah Henderson, Sr., and William Martin.
Early court records in Harrison County indicates that Barnes Allen was an attorney. Page 119 of
Harrison County Deed Records 1785-1810 records: 16 Oct 1798, page 232. Joshua Allen of Harrison
County, Virginia, one of the legal heirs of the estate of William Allen, deceased, late of
Hunterdon County, New Jersey appoints Barnes Allen and Aaron Smith of same, his lawful
attorneys. Signed by Joshua Allen. Recorded Oct 1798.[23],[24] He died on 8 Apr 1820 at
Hepzibah, Harrison County, West Virginia, at age 63.[25],[26]

Hepzibah Baptist Church Cemetery, Hepzibah, Harrison County, West Virginia; died
1890 at Harrison County, West Virginia.
+ 36 vi.Stephen Allen, born 2 Feb 1799 at Harrison County, West Virginia; married
Sabrina Smith; married Nancy F. Mayse.
5. Elizabeth2 SWIGER; (John1); Died at near Brown, Harrison County, West Virginia; born
circa 1764 at Loudoun County, Virginia; married B. Allen circa 1787 at prob Harrison County,
West Virginia; married James Kelley 19 Aug 1790 at Harrison County, West Virginia.[30]
She resided with her family at Brown, in Harrison County, West Virginia where she died at
age 60.[31]
The only child of Elizabeth2 Swiger and B. Allen was:

450, he listed Nancy's maiden name "Barnes");[32],[33] married Nancy Richardson 11 Sep 1833 at
Harrison County, West Virginia;[34] died between 1834 and 1850 at Clarksburg, Harrison County,
West Virginia,. Was not listed in the 1850 Harrison or Doddridge County Census.
He and his family settled near the mouth of Gregory's Run, and had several hundred of acres
of land. He spent the remainder of his life here.[35]

Pennsylvania;[36],[37] died 20 Sep 1856 at Doddridge County, West Virginia, at age 85;[38]
buried at Underwood Cemetery, Ashley, Doddridge County, West Virginia.[39]
She also went by the name of Libby. She and Christopher Ash resided at Center Point,
Doddridge County, West Virginia.[40]
Christopher ASH also went by the name of Christian. He was born circa 1770 at on the
Alantic Ocean.[41] Christopher was interest in hunting and that perhaps furnished the motivation
for the move into Doddridge County where wild game was still plentiful. He and his
brother-in-law, Christopher Swiger hunted other together. About 1800 the two Christophers were

County and settled in Doddridge County, where many of the descendants still live today. The
valley where the Ash family lived is still called "Ash Hollow". It is said that Christopher was
a surveyor and accumulated about 20,000 acres of land, some of which was around Center Point and
Ashley.[42] He died on 20 Aug 1842 at Doddridge County, West Virginia.[43] He was buried at
Christian Church Cemetery, Center Point, Doddridge County, West Virginia.[44]
