It has only been the last several years that I gave much thought to who my ancestors were, where they came from, and what kind of people they were. I had an especially fond relationship with my maternal grandfather (Arthur Bowerman). Since the time of my Dad's passing I have often wondered why he never mentioned a grandfather in his life or why he never talked about Mussers other than his siblings. I have recently discovered that my Dad's grandfather (William Musser) died 36 years before my Dad's birth and infact his death preceded the birth of Dad's father(Rueben). William died August 26, 1864 at Vining Springs, Ga. as a result of wounds received in the Civil War August 24, 1864 during the seige of Atlanta. He is buried at Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, Ga., Plot: I 9612. This discovery has caused an new interest in the Civil War, I just completed "April 1865" by Jay Winik. History in general is taking on a whole new perspective with this finding and the fact that GGGrandfather Micheal served in the War of 1812, his father and grandfather served in the Revolutionary War.

The few hours that I have spent researching the Musser's of Wood County, Ohio have instilled a new sense of pride in my name. Today I am more proud than ever to be a Musser.
