This Indenture made
this fifteenth day of March in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty
six between Juliann Myer Widow of the late Henry Myer Deceased[,] Peter Myer
and Ann Myer his wife, Barbara Myer[,] Enoch Myer and Dorcas Myer his wife[,]
Charles Broadwater and Rosanna Broadwater his wife, and Upton B. Myer all of
Allegany County and State of Maryland of the one part and James Percy and John
Cowan of the County & State aforesaid on the other part Witnesseth that
whereas Henry Myer husband of the above named Juliann [Myer] and father of the
above named Peter Myer Barbara Myer Enoch Myer Rosanna Broadwater and Upton B.
Myer the said Henry died posessed in fee Simple of the following lots tracts or
parcels of Land situate lying and being in Allegany County aforesaid to wit.
Lots Number 3845, 3846, 3927, 3928 and a tract or parcel of Land called
"How can that be" also one other small piece of Land lying Contigeus
to the above Lots which the said Henry pruchased of a certain Jacob Trollinger
containing in the whole two hundred and forty two acres more or less. And the
aforesaid Henry Myer having Died In testate and The the said Julianna Widow as
aforesaid became seized to her full right of Dower of the aforesaid Lots,
Tracts or parcels of Land. also they the said Peter, Barbara, Enoch, Rosanna,
and Upton B. as heirs became seized in fee Simple of the aforesaid Lots, Tract
or parcels of Land and premises to the right of one seventh part each, being an
equal undivided Child's part, all the Stone coal on, or in said Lots or Tracts
or parcels of Land by us, excepted, it having been sold by the said Henry Myer
previous to his death. Now for
and in consideration of the sum of Eleven hundred and fifty Dollars Current money
of the United States paid by the said James Percy and John Cowan unto them the
said Julianna Myer Widow as aforesaid, Peter Myer and Ann Myer his wife,
Barbara Myer, Enoch Myer and Dorcas Myer his wife, Charles Broadwater and
Rosanna Broadwater his wife, and Upton B. Myer the receipt whereof they the
said Julianna Myer, Peter Myer & Ann Myer, Barbara Myer, Enoch Myer &
Dorcas Myer, Charles Broadwater & Rosanna Broadwater, and Upton B. Myer
doth hereby acknowledge and therefrom doth aquit them the said James Percy and
John Cowan, they the said Julianna Myer Widow, Peter Myer & Ann Myer his
wife, Barbara Myer, Enoch Myer & Dorcas Myer his wife, Charles Broadwater
& Rosanna Broadwater his wife, and Upton B. Myer all have Bargained and
sold and by these presents do Bargain sell and convey unto them the said James
Percey and John Cowan all their right, Title, Interest and Claim of in and to
the aforesaid Lots, tracts or parcels of Land and premises above Mentioned To
Have and to hold the same, to wit, the Widows Right of Dower and five sevenths
it being five Childrens parts or undivided Shears. Right, Title, Interest and claim together with all and singular
the apprentices of the same belonging, to the only proper use and behoof of
them the said James Percy and John Cowan their heirs executers, administrators
and Assigns for ever. And the said Julianna Myer doth further Covenant and
agree to warrant and for Ever Defend her right of Dower and all her interest of
the aforesaid Lots, Tracts, or parcels of Land and premises within mentioned.
And also they the said Peter Myer and Ann Myer his wife, Barbara Myer, Enoch
Myer & Dorcas Myer his wife, Charles Broadwater and Rosanna Broadwater his
wife, and Upton B. Myer all doth further covenant and agree to warrant and for
ever Defend their five sevenths being five Childrens part of the aforesaid
Lots, Tracts or parcels of Land and premises within mentioned unto them the
said James Percy and John Cowan their heirs, Executors, Administrators and

Price:
Tracing the ancestry of Nancy Ann Price
was rather difficult because her parents' names were not given on her marriage
certificate and prior to 1850 the only names listed in census records were
those of the head of the household. We
do know however that she and Peter D. Myer were married 22 JUL 1824 in Allegany
County, MD. We also know that Peter was
from near Cumberland., Allegany Co., MD and that Nancy was from Virginia. Years ago, people did not often travel far
from home and generally courted and married those who lived nearby. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that Nancy
was from Hampshire Co., VA, which borders Allegany Co., MD. At the time of Nancy's birth in 1803,
Hampshire County was a major part of the eastern panhandle region of
present-day West Virginia.
The 1782 Hampshire County Tax Census
lists only two Price families, William and Arjalon Jr. The William Price family
had left Hampshire Co. for Kentucky before the 1810 Census. The remaining Price family, that of Arjalon
Price Jr. is very significant because of his name. Peter D. Myer and Nancy Ann Price named one of their sons Arjalon
P. Myer. In the past, it was very
common to pass family names down through several generations. Because of the uniqueness of the name
Arjalon, it is reasonable to assume that Nancy Ann was a decendant of Arjalon
Price Jr. In 1782, the Arjalon Price
Jr. household consisted of eight whites and six slaves. By the 1810 Census, the Arjalon Jr.
household consisted only of Arjalon Jr. and his wife Catey Hill Price. Two known Sons of Arjalon Jr., John Hill
Price and Arjalon Garner Price, were living in their own homes in 1810. The census reports before 1850 do not list
the names of the household members but they do list the name of the head of the
household and the age and sex distribution of the other members. Arjalon Garner Price had only one daughter
in 1810 and her name, Louisa, has been established through birth, death, and
marriage records. John Hill Price had
three daughters ages 0-10 in 1810 and three daughters ages 16-26 in 1820. Only one daughter's identity (Katie) has
been established by records. Nancy Ann Price was very likely one of the
others. Four other suspected Sons of
Arjalon Jr. did not have daughters of the right age to be Nancy Ann.
Dr. Kenneth E. Price, in his book
"The Decendants of Arjalon Price Jr.", makes no mention of Nancy Ann
Price. This was probably because she
married and moved to Monongalia County, VA instead of moving to Marshall County
with the rest of her family.
Although this evidence of Nancy's
ancestry is largely circumstantial, I feel confident that she was the daughter
of John Hill Price and certain that she was the granddaughter of Arjalon Price
Jr.

William Myer:
Thomas P.W. Myer served as a Private with Co.
C, 7th WV Infantry in the Civil War. He
enlisted March 1, 1864 and fought under General Ulysses S. Grant at the battles
of The Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and the Siege of Petersburg,
VA. He mustered out July 1, 1865 as a
Corporal at the end of the war.
According to old family accounts, he was a scout or spy for the Union Army
and at one time while spying on Confederate troops he had C.S.A. President Jefferson
Davis in his rifle sights. He
reportedly would not shoot though because Davis was singing the hymn
"Nearer My God To Thee".
"Tommy" Myer operated a blacksmith shop in Central Station,
Doddridge Co., WV.

7th WEST VIRGINIA
INFANTRY - BRIEF HISTORY:
The 7th West Virginia Infantry has been
called that state's banner regiment.
Nicknamed the "Bloody Seventh," it fought in more battles and
suffered more losses than any other regiment from West Virginia during the
Civil War. Largely ignored by history,
this tough band of mainly farmers compiled a long combat record that compares
favorably with the more renowned regiments of the war.
The 7th West Virginia was organized by Col.
James Evans, a Morgantown politician, during the summer and fall of 1861. Most of the recruits were northwestern
Virginians who supported the federal government, but there were also
significant numbers of enlistments from nearby Ohio and Pennsylvania desirous
of helping their loyal Virginia neighbors prevent the establishment of a
sovereign Confederate nation on their doorstep.
The 7th West Virginia's early service was
limited to the backwaters of the war.
Portions of the regiment took part in several police actions to put down
local unrest caused by conflicting political sympathies in the border region
which eventually became part of northern West Virginia. One such action resulted in the gunning down
of the notorious Zach Cochran, a Confederate sympathizer and former Sheriff of
Taylor County. During this period, the
7th West Virginia was also part of the force assigned to protect the Baltimore
& Ohio Railroad and participated in skirmishes at Romney, West Virginia on
October 26, 1861 and Bloomery Gap, West Virginia on February 14, 1862, both
aimed at driving the Confederates away from that important east-west artery.
April of 1862 found the 7th West Virginia
moving up the Shenandoah Valley as part of Shields' Division in search of the
elusive Stonewall Jackson. After
Jackson no longer appeared to be a threat, Shields' Division was transferred to
McDowell's command at Fredericksburg as part of the buildup for the advance on
Richmond. Suddenly Jackson re-appeared,
striking with fury and driving the federals still in the Valley all the way
back across the Potomac River. The 7th
West Virginia swiftly countermarched to the Valley and again found themselves
pursuing the wily Confederate commander.
A portion of Shields' men finally caught up with Jackson, but were
repulsed near Port Republic.
With Jackson's classic Valley Campaign at
an end, Shields' Division was broken up, and the 7th West Virginia was
transferred to McClellan on the Peninsula.
As part of Kimball's Brigade, the regiment arrived by steamer at
Harrison's Landing in early July 1862 just after Malvern Hill had concluded the
Seven Days' lighting. Moving to the
front shortly after touching shore, Kimball's men skirmished with J. E. B. Stuart's
horse artillery on Evlington Heights from where the Confederate cavalry
commander had imprudently shelled McClellan's huddled army. Sweltering from the heat and plagued by
clouds of flies, many sickened during the 7th West Virginia's stay on the Peninsula
before McClellan withdrew his idle army from the unhealthy setting.
In August, 1862, Kimball's Brigade
steamed northward to the Washington defenses and arrived in time to again
advance to the front and help cover Pope's defeated army as it retreated from
the licking it had received at Second Bull Run.
Over the course of the rest of the war
the 7th West Virginia fought as part of the highly regarded Second Corps of the
Army of the Potomac and saw action in every major engagement of the Eastern
Theatre, including Antietam (where Kimball's Brigade battled the Confederates
at Bloody Lane, resulting in the regiment's highest casualties of the war),
Fredericksburg (where Kimball's Brigade led the Union assault on the stone wall
at the foot of Marye's Heights), Chancellorsville (where the countercharge by a
portion of Kimball's former brigade, now Carroll's, in which the 7th West
Virginia took part, helped delay the Confederate advance on the Chancellor
House crossroads) and Gettysburg (where the countercharge of Carroll's Brigade
on the second day helped save the Union guns on East Cemetery Hill). The regiment was in the thick of the
fighting in each of these battles and acquitted itself with distinction.
Combat, hardship and disease took their
toll. In early September 1863, the
regiment had sustained such losses that the skeletal remnants were consolidated
into a battalion, the supernumerary officers being mustered out. Yet despite their exposures and suffering, a
majority of the men re-enlisted for another three years when early January 1864
arrived.
After returning from their veteran
furloughs in the spring of 1864 flush with more than 100 new recruits, the men
of the 7th West Virginia Battalion marched and fought with U. S. Grant in the
Overland Campaign against Lee at the Battles of the Wilderness. Spotsylvania
and Cold Harbor. They went on to
participate in the fighting surrounding the investment of Petersburg, including
the disaster at Ream's Station on August 25, 1864. Despite this defeat, the men of the 7th West Virginia, reputed as
crack shots, were rewarded with the coveted sixteen-shot, lever-action Henry
repeating rifle, the precursor of the Winchester. This was a rare honor, since no more than 1,731 of the prized
repeaters were purchased by the federal government during the war.
After Lee's surrender at Appomattox, the
7th West Virginia marched in the Grand Review in Washington and was finally
mustered out of service in early July 1865.

Myer, 83, of Rt 1, Salem, Bear Track Road, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 1, at
United Hospital Center.
He was born July 25,
1905, on Indian Run, a son of the late John Barber and Artie Macie Myer.
Twice married, first
to the late Losha Virginia Bland Myer, and later to Helen Stewart Myer, who
survives.
Also surviving are two
Sons, Robert E. Myer, Salem and Danny P. Myer, Morgantown [note: Danny was
actually the adopted son and biological grandson of Loxlie. -- DPM]; three
daughters, Mrs. Ruth E. Morgan, Wolf Summit, Mrs. Linda S. Butcher and Miss
Patricia Poulton [note: Patricia was actually a step-daughter -- DPM], both of
New Martinsville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Myer was a Baptist
by faith and a past master of the Salem Masonic Lodge No. 84, a 32nd degree
mason, and a member of the Nemesis Temple in Parkersburg. He was past worthy patron of Orpha Chapter
No. 30, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the International Order of The
Rainbow, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America District 50. He was a retired machinist for Clinchfield
Coal Company.
