The Slusher-Cox Cemetery is on State Route 8, four miles south of Floyd, VA.(According to 1920 U.S. Census, he said his father was born in North Carolina instead of Virginia, as was mentioned in other censuses.That 1920 census also listed him as a painter of houses. (LM)
A letter from Albert to his oldest son, Walker, in Christiansburg, VA., confirms that he was a house painter.The letter suggests that Walker was acting as Albert's agent or contractor in dealing with customers or potential customers.The letter was found by Joyce Slusher Tolero and a copy sent to me. SLS (possibly Stan Slusher, not sure).
According to notes passed down to Janet Miller by my mother, Alberto Slusher Bacon, Albert "was a bookkeeper for the railroad.He had beautiful hand-writing.He also had a store and post office as well as farmed.The boys did the farming and he helped when he could.He lost the store and post office when he took (promissory) notes from people who were on hard times.I don't know the time frame for the above.JM
