Notes for Joseph Willis Rollins:
IS JOSEPH WILLIS ROLLINS THE SON OF GERMAN BAKER AND NANCY ROLLINS / RAWLINGS?
Joseph Willis Rollins was born 15 Jan 1871.His death certificate lists his place of birth as Arkansas.Very little is known of his background. He was living in Hunt Co, TX, in 1894 when his son Raymon German was born there.

Analysis:
1)the ages of Joseph Willis and Willis are only one year different and errors on census records are well known.
2)Joseph Willis is documented as being identified as Willis Rollins, the same name on the 1880 census.
3)the Cherokee Co census records record German Baker's last name "Rollins".The records for him in TN spell the name as "Rawlings".A possible explanation can be found on the Cherokee Co census records which indicate that German Baker cannot read or write.
4)Joseph Willis named his first son Raymon German.Willis' father was named German Baker."German" is a name that is rare enough that this can be considered more than just a coincidence. In fact, this could be considered to be the strongest evidence.
Conclusion:
Although circumstantial, this information is credible enough to result in the conclusion that Joseph Willis and Willis are very likely to be the same person and that German Baker Rollins/Rawlings is very likely is the father of Joseph Willis.Further research could add to the strength of this conclusion or negate it.Pending the discovery of data to dispute this conclusion, I am accepting this conclusion as stated.---Ron Myers
Additional notes:German Baker Rollins' 1st cousin, Nancy Rawlings, married William Pleasant Jacobs and they had a son named Willis.Nancy's brother Joseph Rawlings, raised German Baker's two youngest brothers after 1849.Possible source of the name Joseph Willis. There is a Pleasant Rollins (male) listed in a Texas census who was born in Tennessee. Some of German Baker's cousins moved to Arkansas.Maybe this is where the Arkansas connection came in about Joseph Willis.---RCM
