9. JOHN3 ALDIS, born at Dedham, Mass., Feb. 12, bapt. Feb. 18, 1655, son of John2 and Sarah (Eliot) Aldis, married at Wrentham, May 23, 1682, Mary Winchester, probably widow of Jonathan2 Winchester (John1) who died 1679, at Roxbury. As the oldest son he probably received the land at Wrentham which had come to his father as a Dedham proprietor. He lived at Wrentham five years after his marriage, then removed to Roxbury, near the Dedham line. Served in King Philip's War, 1675. In Suffolk deeds, vol. 35, is recorded a deed of gift from John Aldis "to my well-beloved only son, Nathan Aldis, of Roxbury, Husbandman" 1721. He died Roxbury, Mar. 18, 1736. Wife was living in 1721.

The Aldis family of Dedham, Roxbury, Wrentham, and Franklin, Mass. From Boston Evening Transcript, Feb. 19, 1902:

"Aldis, At Roxbury, 1708, Nathan Aldis married Eunice Draper. She died 1714, and he married second, Mary Chickering, 1715. Can it be proved that he was the son of John1 and Mary (Winchester) Aldis, who was born at Wrentham, May 11, 1685, and there recorded as 'Ethan.' There is the negative proof that 'Ethan' no longer appears, and indirect proof, through names both ancestral and within the next generation, which has strength. Also their marriages with the James Draper family.

Hannah Aldis, though born in Wrentham, Feb. 19, 1686-87, was baptized at Roxbury, Aug. 30, 1687, the church where the Winchesters worshipped and where their children were baptized."
