Note: His parentage is not certain. He may be the son of another Robert de Ogle. He was probably the Robert who, in 1329, with a number of others, received a general pardon for all homicides, and so forth, committed in aiding the King--possibly against Henry of Lancaster--and was a juror at Newcastle as to lands held by a Scot in Northumberland. He was a commissioner of array in Northumberland, and in the Liberty of Hexham, in 1335, 1344, 1345, and 1353. In May, 1341, of a special grace for his good service in the Scottish March, he had a grant of free warren in his desmesnes of Ogle, Shilvington, Thirston, and so forth, with licence to fortify and crenellate his dwelling house of Ogle. Hc captured five of a band of Scottish knights foraging into England in 1342. In 1345, together with Sir Thomas Lucy and the bishop of Carlyle, he drove out of Cumberland the invading Scotrs under Douglas. The following year he took part in the battle of Neville's Cross. In 1355 he was left in charge of Berwick by lord Greystoke, the keeper, who without orders joined the King in France. The Scots made a surprise attack by sea, and took the town, although not the castle. His son and heir, also Robert, was killed in the attack, as was a younger son.
