Hi,
Have been looking into the Samuel Despain/Ann Marshall
family and have not been able to prove that Samuel Despain's
wife was named Ann Marshall... so far. Anyone out there have
any proof of this. The following so far, in reference to Samuel:

Brunswick County, Virginia - Order Book 3: 28,29
March Court, 1745
Thomas Cocke said Samuel Dispain indebted to him for 4 pounds,
7 shillings, 4 pence, upon account and refuseth paiment.
July Court, 1746
Thomas Cocke said Samuel Dispain owed him 4 pounds, 7 shillings,
4 pence.

20 August 1748
A Patent for 200 acres of land is granted to Samuel Daspins, in the
county of Brunswick, on the south side of the Meherrin river, etc.

This indenture made this xxvi day of June in the year of our lord one
thousand seven hundred and fifty between Samuel Dispain and the
County of Brunswick of the one part and Samuel Marshall same county
of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Samuel Dispain for and in
consideration of the sum of thirty pounds current money of Virginia to
him in hand paid by the said Samuel Marshall the receipt whereof he
doth acknowledge and himself therewith fully and entirely satisfied.
Hath granted bargained and sold aliened released and confirmed and
by these presents for himself and his heirs doth grant bargain sell
alien release and confirm unto the said Samuel Marshall his Heirs and
assigns forever.

One certain tract of land containing two hundred acres more or less lying
and being in the county of Brunswick on the south side of Miaherrin river
that was granted to the said Samuel Dispain by letters patent dated
20 August 1748 at Williamsburg and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning
at William Martins corner white oak on the River thence along the said
line south 39 degrees west 34 poles to Penningtons corner white oak thence
east 220 poles to a white oak on John Ezells line thence north 7 degrees
east 138 poles to a beech on the said river thence up as it meandereth to
the beginning.

With all houses orchards gardens fences woods and underwood waters and
watercourses thereon standing growing and being with all profits commodities
advantages and appurtenances whatsover In witness whereof the aforesaid
Samuel Dispain hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal this xxvi
day of June 1750.

Bute County, North Carolina Wills & Inventories 1760-1800
To all christian people unto whom this present writing shall come I Samuel
Dispain of Bute County in the province of North Carolina greeting: Know ye
that I the said Samuel Dispain for divors good causses & valuable
consideration....do give, grant & confirm unto Benjamin Dispain....all
singular my goods, chattels, household, shift _____ to have and to hold
....and if in case the said Benjamin Dispain should die without heirs that
then the above said goods....to fall unto Harrison Harris...theirs to do
with
and or dispos at his or their will...peaceably...without any undue......
trouble or denial of me....I have hereunto set my hand....the 2 day of

of Johnston, N.C. of the one part and Samuel Dispain of Granville of the
other part witnesseth that the said Benjamin Hardy for and in consideration
of the sum of thirty seven pounds ten shillings proc. money to him in hand
paid by the said Samuel Dispain the receipt whereof he doth acknowledge
and doth.....acquit and discharge the said Samuel Dispain....forever
