Charles Lattimore, SR and Charles Lattimore, JR shown on 1782 Northumberla nd County, VA Tax List.
Lot(t) Adams and wife Nancy sold land in Northumberland County Nov. 12, 17 86 Charles Lattimore & William Lattimore signed the Sales Document as witn esses. Lot(t) Adams died in Norfolk County, VA in 1787. An Appraisement I nventory of his property was taken October 18, 1787 by three men that incl uded Charles Lattimore. My question is: Could there be a relationship bet ween the Lattimore and Adams families? We do not know Nancy Adams' maid en name----maybe it was Lattimore? Lot(t) Adams was only about 31 years o ld when he died. We suspect Nancy re-married, not sure. We found their s on William Adams in North Carolina in 1813. We would like to fill in the m issing years. Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated. J im Adams e-mail: jasadams@flash.net

Information from John Preston Stockton, Rutherfordton, North Carolina , 19 59:

Sometimes referred to as Capt. John Lattimore, arrived in Philadelphia, Pe nnsylvania, from Ireland about 1690 with his brothers Daniel and Samuel. S iblings of John were married at Overwhorton Parish, Stafford, Virginia b ut no record there of John's marriage.

Legend has it that brothers Samuel, Daniel, and John Lattim ore arriv ed in Philadelphia from Ireland in 1690.

Nothing more is known about Samuel but John and Daniel appear on Chester C o., Pennsylvania tax rolls in 1730. John as "John Lateman " and Dani el as "Daniel Latemor. No other records of Daniel have been found after th is period.

He migrated to Virginia ca 1730. 1734 purchased 200 acres of land in Prin ce William Co., Va., from Thomas Furr, and in 1740 John Lattimore Sr. so ld 50 acres to his son, John Jr. In 1749 John Lattiore of Stafford Co., pu rchased 274 acres in Prince William Co., from Richard Young of Orange Co ., & Henry Smith of Stafford Co. Prince William Court Order Books for Ju ly 27 and Aug 25, 1761, show that Sarah Lattimore presented in Court the L ast Will & Testament of John Lattimore, Sr.

John Lattimore had red hair and blue eyes. It is not known where or wh en he married. Per PW'notes: Apparently John and Sarah migrated to VA in 1730-34 after h is living in Pennsylvania with his two immigrant brothers, Samuel and Dani el. They came from Ireland in 1690.

There are many records in Prince William County: e.g. "The record sho ws John Lattimore purchased 200 acres of land in P.W. Cty from Thomas Fu rr in 1734 for the sum of 200 pounds lawful money of Great Britain." etc.

John's will was contested by daughters: Winny Cummins, Betty Millard, Sar ah Fernsley, Mary Pritchett, and Charity Knight. [thereby giving us the ir married names.]

PZ: I have found a great deal of information in a book "The Lattimores" by Esther Lattimore Jenkins. She begins 'According to family legend, brot hers Samuel, Daniel, and John Lattimore arrived in Philadelphia, PA, fr om Ireland in 1690." then quoting from a letter written by his grandson S amuel "then separated from his brothers--I know not how many-- and went hi mself to Virginia. Whether he married in Pennsylvania or Virginia, I do n ot know.

Grandmother's name was Isabel Frazier, She had black hair and black eye s. Grandfather had red hair and blue eyes."

This is the info. I have on John from Ireland. Do you think this is the sa me? Got this info. from my Dad, John W. Lattimore.
