Commanded an expedition to Rochelle, in 1580, and took an important part in the conquest of the Spainish Armada. Extended his lands by buying the manor of Lydney from the Earl of Pembroke. Commanded the "Vanquard", of 500 tons and 2050 men, in the battle of the great Amada. Appointed Surveyor of the Navy in 1549, and was later appointed Mater of Ordinance to the Navy in 1557. Wyntours of the White Cross gives his wife alternatively as Mary, daughter of Sir Andrew Chyd or Judde of Lydde, Sussex.
