Welcome to the Family page of Nadin genealogy. I was born in Castlederg, Co.Tyrone, Northern Ireland to Maureen and Bertie IRWIN and emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, at age 12 with my family and six brothers. I went on holiday to Auckland, New Zealand in 1970, where I met my husband Alfie NADIN, and we have two really neat young adults, Kristen 20 and Scott 17. I am doing it the hard way so I have been told, tracing both sides of our family trees. They can be very elusive.
My grandparents were IRWIN- HAMILTON and BELL -SWABY, and Alfie's, NADIN- ELLIOTT and SHARP-WRAGG.
My Irwin and Hamilton families, lived in Tyrone Northern Ireland, with some emigrating to Australia and U.S.A., mid 1800's. The name Bell has beginnings in Sligo, Ireland and were found again in Texas, San Antonio, and many other parts of America. First sightings of Swaby, my Grandmother's family name, are at Marsh Chapel Lincolnshire, later venturing to Doncaster Yorkshire, and trading in Fish and Coal Barges, and on the river Don.
Alfie's family, were in the Cutlery industry, from Dore, England and then settling mainly around Sheffield England. I believe they may have originated further afield. Marjorie Sharp, Alfie's mother 's family, were in the Iron trade near Rotherham, Settle and Tinsley Yorkshire, England. Her mother Florence Wragg, and grandparents went in Engineering at Steele, Peach & Tozers., also Rotherham. Additional surnames relating to the above are: Bell, Irwin, Crafter, Hamilton, Kyle and McMorris and Moor(e)head (mainly Northern Ireland), - Boocock, (Bookek - France and Yorkshire England) Brooke, Burgin, Buckley, Fevre, Jubb, Joby, Nadin, Plumpton, (England, Yorkshire & Lincolnshire) - Wheatley, McMoris and Cowan (Scotland, New Foundland and then England). - Ronchetti (Italy and Lancashire) and Swaby (Lincolnshire in Doncaster England).
