M: May 14, 1812 Robeson Ct. NC
NANCY TEDDER b: Feb 5 1786, North Carolina (Source: Family bible)

(both believed to be buried at Hatchett Creek Presbyterian Church, Brownwood Cemetery in unmarked graves, now Clay County Alabama.) This was Talladega Ct. Alabama
Notes: We know that Duncan & Nancy moved from Robeson Ct. NC to Talladega Ct. Ala after 1831. There were 7 children born in Robeson Ct. NC (info from Family Bible) 3 girls and 4 boys.
PETER MUNROE b: 1775 (census)in Scotland, (Note: family bible shows Peter born abt 1764.) lived with Duncan & Nancy in NC and traveled with them to Alabama. We believe him to be Duncan's brother or perhaps if the later date is correct, his Father.
Noted in the 1850 Talladega Ct. Alabama Census living with DUNCAN MUNRO age (66) & NANCY age (66) was a SUSAN MONROE (daug)(18), SAML R. (GS)(1) COLLIN (son)(33) and PETER MONROE (75)
In the 1860 census Talladega Ct. Alabama, NANCY & SUSAN were alone. Duncan & Peter were now deceased.
Colin Munore was Duncan and Nancy's son. He had moved back home with his young son by the 1850 census. His wife had died shortly after there marriage & birth of Samuel K Munroe. Colin died in 1853, we know from his will that Samuel K Monroe died August 1st 1857 before his father's will was probated. Why it took so long to probate is still a mistery, but we were able to glean a ton of information from it. Colin had a 2nd wife, perhaps expecting a second child when Colin died. Margaret M. Monroe was Colin's 2nd child born about 1853, as listed in his probate papers.
Sometime after 1865 and before 1870 JOHN ANTHONY Monroe (4th issue) & his family of nine left Alabama traveling to Louisiana. (According to the Obiturary of Jefferson Davis Monroe,9th issue of John & Sara Ann,) they lived a short while in Mississippi. This family settled in Sugartown, LA. Is it possible that the twin to Jefferson Davis died & is buried in Mississppi. We are still searching for that burial site.
For many years it was believed that John Anthony Monroe was the first and only family to move to Louisiana. In fact we have now proven that ARCHIBALD T. MUNROE & MARY SMITH along with their first child EMILY JANE Monroe were the first to move to LA. They left after 1850 and before 1852 settling in a small communtiy called Vernon LA, in Lincoln Parish. They raised a family of six. Archibald T. died in the War Between The States. His wife Mary took the family to Marshall TX where she worked as a seamstress. Later moving to Shreveport, LA, Caddo Parish. Her Children married and settled there.(see my report for this family)There only son marion died in his youth.
Later a Sister MARY MUNROE & ROBERSON McMILLAN and family moved to Vienna La, Lincoln Parish. This is about 9 miles from Ruston LA and 28 miles from Vienna, where her brother and family had lived. We believe they moved sometime in the 1870's. (see my report)

- My Father DL Monroe at 17 (11 KB)
My Father was a Civil Engineer. He was born in 1914 and raised in LA. Married my mother in 1940. She was raised in Oklahoma. He worked as a Forman on a Dredge and followed it to Florida, this is where I was born. He became completely bald at 19, I have noted that he has what I refer to as the Monroe head, so typical in look. In dress hats he wore the largest size sold. There would be only one in each shipment. He owned his own construction company here in LA. He excelled in math and it was his joy to give help to people down and out.
