Notes for Lauretta Frances Eldridge: When they were young, Lauretta's brothers climbed on ice in the Harbor and it separated. They had to be rescued by the Boston Harbor Police, which is interesting as most of their uncles were Boston Policemen.
Lauretta never learned to drive. She would become mesmerized behind the wheel.
Family Lore: Lauretta's mother (Sophia) was unable to attend her Christening. Her grandmother gave the name "Lauretta Frances", but that was not what Sophia had intended.
Lauretta had red hair and blue eyes.
Stories: Lauretta had two good friends- Janet Keary and Theresa Millard. She attempted a trip to Hawaii late in life with Theresa, but she fell while getting on a bus and broke her leg. A a child, Lauretta and neighborhood children would jump in big piles of saw dust at a sawmill in East Boston. Sometimes there would be water underneath the sawdust. She remembered a man that would come down the street with a pushcart sellign waffles/pancakes. When Lauretta was older she wore a pin in her hat. She would run past a graveyard on the way home from her friends house and the wind would rush through the needle, sounding like a ghost. The faster she ran, the louder it got. Lauretta would later use that same pin to prick men on the bus that sat too close to her.
