John C. REED (b. Abt. 1784, d. Bef. December 1856)
John C. REED was born Abt. 1784 in North Carolina85, and died Bef. December 1856 in Walton County, Georgia86. He married Matilda WATERS.
Notes for John C. REED: He drew a portion of land lot 147 in Walton County. At the time he was residing in the P. Brown district of Franklin County, Georgia. He died without leaving a will. The Minute Book of Walton County, Georgia records the lengthy settlement of his estate, beginning with letters of Administration granted to Calvin and Alfred Reed in the December Term of Court, 1856. Permission to sell his land was granted to the administrators at the December, 1857 term of court.
REED GRAVEYARD: This family graveyard lies in a cul-de-sac at the end of Pummel Court in the Saddlebrook Subdivision near the small town of Youth in Walton County, Georgia. It contains 19 graves. For years, this graveyard lay abandoned in the woods of property that was once owned by John C. Reed. The land was developed by Mr. Charles Garner, 2925 Youth Monroe Rd, Loganville, Georgia 30249. One acre of land was set aside for the cemetery in a Walton County deed recorded January 3, 1873. The developer encroached upon this property leaving only what remains the cul-de-sac on Pummel Ct. The Walton County government failed to enforce compliance with Georgia law regarding private family graveyards. I distinctly remember at least one large stone box covered grave away from the main group of graves. It would have been somewhere outside the area within the bounds of what remains visible today. Apparently there were no descendants living in the area that took an interest in this problem.
