Notes for JAMES FRANKLIN FILYAW:
Louise Lawson Filyaw Warner says that her ex-husband, Nolan, told her that his mother was angry at his father one day because he was drunk.  He said that Willie locked him out of the house, in the cold snowy winter night, and that he developed pneumonia due to this and died shortly after.  Others state that James left Willie and never remarried.

Notes for EDWARD NOLAND FILYAW:
There is reason to believe that Noland had another child - this lady introduced herself to Tina as her half-sister several years ago, but did not leave any way of contact in the future.  Her name was Sharon Cagle.  We are very interested in finding this half-sister of Tina's.

Noland spent time in the State Pen on a charge of Forgery.  This was for several checks (most for $27.00) written to different people in Roane County.  The checks belonged to Denis Morton.  Mom states that he didn't really do this, that he lied to cover for Paul (his brother) and spent the time really due to Paul.  Unknown if this is the truth, or just what he told Mom.  Records were found in Roane County Court for this, No. 2706 & 2705.  He was sentenced to 1 year in the State Pen.

Paul was murdered in Harriman, Tennessee.  January 4, 1985 Roane County News Report:

No arrests have been made, and none were expected, Thursday morning in the New Year's Day murder of a Harriman man.  Law enforcement officials had questioned a number of people in connection with the case and were continuing that process Thursday.  No motive or other details of the case have been discussed by law enforcement officials.  The body of Paul Filyaw, 47, Route 5, Harriman, was found about 9 P.M. New Year's night by a Roane County deputy on routine patrol.  Sgt. Raymond Cooper was patrolling in the Elverton Community, between Harriman and Oliver Springs. when he found the body.  The body was lying face down beside a Ford Rancho at the entrance to a TVA access area.  The access area is about three-fourths of a mile from Clax Gap Road.  Filyaw had been stabbed twice, including once in the heart area.  Sheriff's Investigator Darrell Sirmans said.  Officers believe the body had been at the scene for several hours before it was discovered.  Filyaw was apparently stabbed while sitting in the vehicle officers said.  No wallet was found with the body, but an identification card from Rust Engineering, where Filyaw was a truck driver, was located.  Several beer cans and blood stains were found inside the vehicle.  Officers said there were also indications the man might have been murdered elsewhere and the truck moved to the site where it was found.  Sirmans, Sheriff Arnold Clower and Clarence Robbins, criminal investigator for the attorney general's office, are heading the investigation.  The body was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital for an autopsy Wednesday morning.

A January 11, 1985 report in Roane County News stated that there were still no arrests, but that the investigation continues.

Court records indicate that his son, Michael, was charged with the crime - but that  a Nolle Prosequi was entered in the case and defendant was discharged.  I'm not really sure what this means.  The day after that, a True Bill is found stating that Michael did kill Paul and summoning several people to court.  Haven't found anything else on the case at this time.

Notes for CHRISTOPHER DREW COFER:
Christopher was born five months into my pregnancy.  After three days of labor, being transferred from Chamberlain Memorial Hospital in Rockwood, having to go through an ultrasound and being given something to make me go into full labor quicker, I finally had Christopher.  I was then rushed to surgery for an emergency D&C.  He was alive when born, but could not breath due to underdeveloped lungs, and died within minutes of birth.  He weighed 11 ounces and was as small as the palm of my hand.  I have a book with his pictures and tiny little hand and foot prints.  His footprints are only as big as the tip of my finger to the first line.  We buried him three days later (on Jason's birthday) in Cardiff Cemetary.  I've never faced anything harder than letting that casket get covered.
