TAYLOR: THE ROCKWOOD TIMES, FEBRUARY 11, 1909 Death of Hugh Tayor Hugh Taylor, a well known citizen, died last night at his home in the Fairview addition. Mr. Taylor has been in bad health for more than two years and during that time his condition has been gradually worse. Mr. Taylor has been a resident of Rockwood for several years and was well liked by all with whom he came in contact. His wife and several children are left to mourn his death. The funeral and burial will occur Friday afternoon at 1:30. THE ROCKWOOD TIMES, FEBRUARY 18, 1909 The death in this city on Thursday of last week of Mr. Hugh M. Taylor removes from the life of the city a citizen who had spent most of his life here and saw the town grow from a mere village to the prosperous place of business that it now holds in the commercial history of Tennessee. Mr. Taylor at the time of his death was not an old man, as age is now measured, having been born at Kingston in 1861; still he was able to tell many interesting stories about the early history of Rockwood, with which he liked to talk. At the age of 18 his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilas Taylor, removed to Rockwood and first occupied the house now owned by Dr. Morgan Clack. In 1882 Mr. Taylor married Miss Hannah Kindred of this city and to this union nine children were born, five girls and four boys. All of these are still living and with the exception of Mrs. J. F. Brown, who resides at Coalfield, Morgan county, they are all residents of this city. Mrs. Ed Scarbro and Mrs. Brown are the only married children, and the others have remained under the parental roof. Mr. Taylor was a prominent worker among the Odd Fellows, and always displayed a keen interest in the order. Some two years ago his health became broken and he has gradually grown worse since that time. His was a heritage well worth storing away in the pleasant memories of those of his relatives left behind. The funeral services were held at the house last Thursday afternoon under the auspices of the Odd Fellows' cemetery. v. DAVID TAYLOR, b. Abt. 1863. vi. ANNA TAYLOR, b. Abt. 1867. 3. vii. WHEELER C.
