The following information is from Dorson's (sis) wife, Mary's petition for pension of Revolutionary War Veteran.File:W. 8712.
Dorson enlisted, April 1776 as a private in Capt. Frank Hargrove's Company in the Militia under General Rutherford, a part of the time near "Isaac's Fort" and later fought against Cherokee Indians and Tories engaged in three battles.He returned home in November, having served over three months.Later he volunteered and served three months in Capt. Benjamin Cleveland's North Carolina Company engaged against the Tories.Subsequently, he enlisted under Lt. Ellison and marched into Georgia where he took part in the Battle of Augusta, and several smaller skirmishes during one of which he was taken prisoner.He was released after a short time and was discharged from service by Colonel McNeal near Briar Creek, length of said service, nearly eighteen months.
