CHARLES EDWARD NELSON 3169 W. ROBERTS AVE. FRESNO,CA 93711-2162 (209) 431-6150 | INTRODUCTION Alex Taylor was born a slave and possible died a slave. The information compiled here comes from a variety sources. Most notable is verbal information from my 87-year-old mother (Ever Bee Taylor – Nelson), who has a keen an extraordinary memory and mine. I also received valuable verbal form other family members, Enon’s cemetery head stones, obituaries, family members pictures with notations, marriage licenses, and the internet. Jeff and Lessie Meadows Taylor were the parents of Ever Bee Taylor Nelson.Nothing is known of the origin of the matriarch family name of Meadows. On the other hand the patriarch family name of Taylor had its own simple but unique origin. No written evidence was found to support its origin but there is strong support via verbal knowledge passed from generation to generation. It seems that the family name of Taylor could have just as easily been Turner. The grandfather of Jeff Taylor and his brother, at a fairly young age, had the choice of keeping the known family name or taking the then present slave owner’s last name. The name chosen by our great great grandfather was Taylor |
