Pioneers of Acadia BABIN, Antoine, came from France with his wife Marie Mercier, according to his grandson Claude Babin’s widow, Marguerite Dupuis (Doc. inéd., Vol. III, p. 51). The widow’s son Laurent Babin’s deposition says the same thing (ibid., p. 131), as does that of Joseph LeBlanc dit Le Maigre, whose son Joseph was the widower of one of Antoine Babin’s great-granddaughters (ibid., Vol. II, p.177).
Pioneers I Antoine Babin lived in Port-Royal where he married Marie Mercier, d/o unknown Mercier and Françoise Gaudet [who married Daniel LeBlanc, abt 1650]. Abt 1662, their son Charles settled in Pisiguit following his marriage to Madeleine Richard about 1686. She was the d/o Michel Richard and Madeleine Blanchard. Two of their six sons are the ancestors of all of the Babin families of New Brunswick. René, the eldest, married Isabelle Boudrot, d/o Claude Boudrot and Marie Thériot, and they had a large family. Among their chidren, Pierre, born May 26, 1735 at Grand-Pré. He married Madeleine Bourque February 22, 1759. She was the d/o Jean Bourque and Marie Thériault. L'aîné, René, a pris pour femme Isabelle Gautrot, fill e de Claude Gautrot et de Marie Thériot, qui lui a donné une nombreuse famille, dont Pierre, né à Grand-Pré le 26 mai 1735. Celui-ci a épousé, le 22 février 1759, Madeleine Bourque, fille de Jean Bourque et de Marie Thériault, avec qui il s'est fixé à Menoudie, où il est décédé vers juin 1790.
