According to Mrs. Roe's book, "Recollections of Frontier Life," she and her husband, Dr. John Roe, departed from Eddyville, Kentucky for Illinois on February 18, 1827. He drove a two-horse wagon while she drove a one-horse buggy, with a babe in her arms and another dear little boy, two years old, at her feet.
