(sic), age 11, born February 1889 in Iowa, Helen N., age 6, born December 1893 in Missouri, and Clesese H. (sic) (this would be Elise), age 3, born April 1897 in Illinois. Also in the household is his mother-in-law, Margrett B. Lewis (sic), age 59, born August 1840 in Ohio. 1920 Census, Dixon, Lee County, Illinois: Reverend Glen H. Putnam is listed as G. H. Putnam, age 63, born in New York. His wife is Mary, age 50, born in Ohio. There are no children at home now. The obituary for Rev. Glenn Putnam reads: Rev. Glenn Howard Putnam, pastor of the Congregational Church in the west end of Dixon for several years, and a leader in charitable work in the city since his coming to Dixon, passed away at his home, 514 Squire Avenue, Sunday morning at 4 o'clock. Death, while unexpected at this time, ended a suffering of many weeks duration, the pastor having been stricken with paralysis during the early winter. Rev. Putnam had been a tireless charitable worker in Dixon during his term as pastor of the Congregational Church, devoting his entire time to the relief of the needy and suffering of the city, as well as to the upbuilding of his church. He was born in Glenn, NY, Jan. 31, 1852. Fraternally, Rev. Putnam was a member of the Masonic order and of the Dixon lodge of Elks, having served as Chaplin in the latter. The complete obituary will be published later. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence, 514 Squires Avenue Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev. Prentiss Hovey Cass, pastor of the Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery, the service at the grave being in charge of the officers of the local lodge of Elks. The members of the lodge are requested to meet at the club house at 1:45 tomorrow afternoon to attend the funeral in a body. From: Dixon Evening Telegraph, Dixon, Illinois, June 1, 1925, Monday evening. From Tuesday's paper: "GLENN H. PUTNAM. Glenn Howard Putnam was born in the Village of Glenn, NY, Jan. 31, 1852. His early life was spent in New York City. In 1870 at 18 years of age, he came to Keokuk, Iowa and while there united with the Presbyterian Church of which Dr. Willis G. Craig was then pastor. Through the influence of Dr. Craig he decided to enter the ministry and began his preparation in the Central University at Danville, Ky., where he completed his collegiate courses. He began his seminary course in the McCormick Theological Seminary and completed it in the Union Theological Seminary, New York and added one year of post graduate work at the Princeton Theological Seminary, NJ "He was ordained in the Presbytery of Des Moines in 1882. The early years of his ministry were passed in Iowa and Missouri and the later years in Illinois. His last pastorate was in the Congregational Church in this city. His death occurred after an illness of one year, Sunday morning, May 31, in his home at 514 Squires Avenue, this city." Pleasant, IA - 1910-1913 Pastor (West Side) Dixon, IL - 1919-1923 He was "engaged in business" from 1914 - 1919. His degrees include: M.A., Centre College, 1890; Ph.D., University of New Jersey (now Princeton), 1882. The 1885 Iowa State Census lists Letitia P. Putnam, 54 and widowed, living in Warren Township, Wayne County, with Glenn H. Putnam, 32 and single. He is listed as a preacher and she as a music teacher. The listing from Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon, IL lists Glenn H. Putnam and Mary Lewis Putnam, interred in the Mausoleum--Glenn Putnam on 6-1-1925 and Mary Lewis Putnam in 1952. |
