 Includes NotesNotes for Anna Hurley:
Anna Hurley was born in Meadville PA, where she married Weaver H. McKay
on Ma y 4, 1903 in Herington KS. Her husband, a brakeman for the
railroad, died in a train wreck in December 1904. The story is that he
was the only person on the train who jumped from the train for safety and it was crashing and was the only person who died from injuries when one of the cars of the train landed on him. Ann and her daughter, Frances, moved with Anna's sister, Mary, to Denver, whe re she raised her young daughter and, later, married Frank Flynn, with who m she had a daughter, Agnes.

Anna had diabetes and I remember Mom talking ab out how, with such routine ease, she injected insulin in her legs each morning. Diabetes, which caused gangreen and ultimately cost her the loss of at least one of her legs, finally took her life at the young age of 50.

I remember o f story Mom told about the day she was shopping with her mother in downtown Den ver and commented on the "pregnant" woman she noticed nearby. Her mother respo nded with shock that her daughter would speak such a word and asked Mom where s he heard about that. When Mom gave her the name of a childhood chum who told h er about such things, she was forbidden from that day forward from having anyth ing to do with that friend.
