Includes NotesNotes for Ethel Madeleine O'Leary:
This family, George O'Leary and Mary Ann Raworth, was in Illinois for
some tim e, later moving to Crete, Saline County, Nebraska in 1883. By
1890 they were in Bucklin, Ford County, Kansas. The family was living in
Pueblo, Colorado i n 1899 where they lived at the time of George's death
in 1901. George is bu r ied in Pueblo, Colorado. Note to Judy Griffin
(from the Raworth side of the f amily ): Thanks to our mutual cousin (I
think) Jim Fletcher, I now have a lon g lost connection from my dad's side
of the family, i.e. my paternal grand mot her, Eth el O'Leary. He gave me
your name and e-mail address. I have be en w orking on o ur family tree
since early 1970's but never thought I would f ind a direct link to
Ireland, let alone, England, which I never knew existed in ou r ancestry.
I was thrilled to learn of my Irish and English
connection s. On my mother's sid e, we are also Irish, and Scottish,
(McKay, McDonald an d Hur ley). My lastname , of course, comes from my
father's side, Irish from t he O 'Leary's and German from his father, John
Griebling, reportedly from Nass au, Germany. I only knew of three of my
grandmother, Ethel's, siblings and o nly met one. My dad often t alked
fondly of Aunt Nancy and Maggie, who lived in L os Angeles and were avid (
Dodgers?) baseball fans. I assume they lived near the stadium and often
attend ed games. I don't know if they ever marri ed or not, assumed they
lived togethe r, but never had the pleasure of ever m eeting them. Of
course I knew, and was close to, my grandmother's brother, B ill, w ho
lived with his wife, Ann, in Linc oln. They often visited us on vac ation
to Evergreen, CO, where we lived, and I remember Aunt Ann's interest in
new family information. I remember Uncle Bill and Aunt Ann with great
fon dness. I think he worked for the railroad. I had no idea and never
heard of a ny othe r relatives of my grandmother.
She died in 19 47, when I was just 7 yea rs old , but I remember her, too,
visiting us in Everg reen. Actually, she and my gr andfather owned the
house I lived in, which they had bought as a weeken d cabi n, and gave to
my dad and mom after his family grew to seven child ren (1936), later to
eleven children in all. I will forever be thankful that I w as rais ed in
such a beatiful environment and have my grandpar ents to thank f or that !
