Joseph Raworth (son of Ebenezer Heathcote Raworth and Sarah Wing) was born December 20, 1820 in Sheffield, England76, 77, and died May 23, 1913 in Saline County, Nebraska78, 79. He married Alice M. Tomlinson on August 1851 in Mason County, Illinois80, daughter of Elizabeth Abbott.

Joseph came to the United States in the spring of 1844. He lande d in New
Orleans with one crown in his pocket on the 5th of April of that ye ar.
It is likely that he made the trip with John J. Fletcher and William
Fl etcher who are known to have made the crossing in the spring of 1844
and late r moved to Mason and Cass Counties around 1847. For two years
Joseph engage d in steam boating, taught school for three months in 1846.
He went to Scott C ounty, Illinois and began farming. He later moved to
Mason County, Illinois w h ere he lived for some time in Lynchburg
Township
before going to he moved t o Cass County, Illinois around 1861 where he
purchased 105 acres from John J . Fl etcher. In 1884, Joseph and his wife
moved to Nebraska with their younge st son Richard. At the time of his
death, he owned 320 acres in Saline County , N ebr aska.[martin
