As of February 28, 2009 (1,473 additions and many major updates since last updated September 30, 2008): I have been researching the Nerge Family Tree since 1977. The earliest record of a Nerge that I found was in Helpsen, Schaumburg, Germany (it is all now part of Landkreis Schaumburg). In the late 1500's, Hans Nerge was a farmer living in Helpsen. (See the attached Descendant Tree for Hans Nerge.) At the start of the '30 Years War', his son Hans was a serf to the Prince (Baron?) of Schaumburg. Several generations later in 1846, Fred (Fritz) Nerge and his family immigrated from Apelern, Hessian, Germany to Schaumburg, IL. Fred is credited with naming the town of Schaumburg. To the best of my knowledge, all Nerge's in the USA are related to each other. In Germany, most of the Nerge's currently live in the Schaumburg area, centered in Buckeburg. Towns close by include Vehlen, Obernkirchen, Sulbeck, Wendthagen, Reinsdorf and Apelern, to name a few. The family tree information attached to this home page contains much of what I've collected the past 32 years. Included is information about family lines related to me, my children, my wife Lynne, and numerous indirect relationships. Many of the names on it read like an index for the founding fathers of Schaumburg, IL and surrounding towns because the early families intermarried. There are 70,535 names in my tree. The Family Tree Entries report indicates what is in this tree. I have become the repository for several different families. I welcome anyone who wants to discuss, update, and share information. Included are reports on some founding families in Schaumburg (I'm limited to 5 reports; therefore, many indirect relationships are not shown in these descendant reports). To provide security, reports are published as PDF files and those people in my tree whom are currently living have their data marked as Private. I am still trying to answer the following: Has anyone been able to tie the Nerges together in Germany as I have done in America? While I know that Hans Nerge is my direct ancestor, I have fragments of Nerges in Germany not directly tied into the tree. I'm continuing to make inroads on this task and would appreciate any help you may offer. |
