THE FAMILY TREE
BY BRENDA NEUHAUSER

THE FAMILY TREE HAS BRANCHES WIDE,
THEY'RE REACHING OUT FROM SIDE TO SIDE.
A FAMILY NAME IS SOMETHING GRAND,
FOR THIS IS HOW THE TREE BEGAN.

A FATHER, MOTHER, SON OR TWO,
IT BRANCHES OUT TO ME AND YOU.
IN LOOKING BACK I'VE LEARNED TO SEE,
HOW GOD HAS BLESSED THIS GROWING TREE.

ALL THE STORIES THAT GRANDPA TOLD
IN BRINGING BACK THE DAYS OF OLD.
I HEARD HIM TELL OF YOUNGER DAYS,
AND TELL US OF THE OLDEN WAYS.

WITH FRUITS OF LABOR AND GODS GRACE,
OUR FAMILY TREE WAS PUT IN PLACE.
TO GROW AND SOW ITS SEEDS A BREAST,
OUR FAMILY TREE WILL TELL THE REST.

THE PALATINE FARM ALSO KNOWN AS THE FRANS NEHER HOMESTEAD

The Palatine Farm of Rhinebeck New York dating back to the early 1700's, also known as the Frans Neher Home is currently under restoration process. I visited the property October 1st 2003 and I am adding some of the photographs to this page. I would like to encourage any and all Near family and researchers to please donate to this project. This is not only the history of Rhinebeck but also the history of our roots. I met with Marilyn Hatch from the historical society who was very informative about the house and barn. They have so much to do yet before the house will be complete, but they are doing a very careful job to protect the history of the house as well as restoring it to its original structure. There is several names on the walls of the old barn dating back to the initials MD 1770.
A close look at the wood in the house and barn will reveal the ax marks. Marilyn Hatch and Nancy Kelly have been collecting all the information they can find including documents from 1729, 1747,showing that Frans Neher did indeed live in the house and later sold the house to Lodwick Elsefer, who was also the father in law of Anna Maria Neher, daughter of Joost Neher, granddaughter of Frederick Neher, and the great granddaughter of Carl Neher. Anna Maria Married Henry Elsefer and later lived in the house.
I am really glad that my Aunt and I were able to visit this site as it really shows me a good cause for donations to the restoration. Please send your donations to the Palatine Farmstead
The address to mail donations is
