| Georg Christoph Bauman b1733 came to America in 1755 from Germany. He settled in Bucks County Pennsylvania, near a relative named Hans Dieter Bauman.Georg changed his name to Christopher Bowman. In 1759 he married Susan Banks.Later on his two brothers followed him to America one settling in the area and one moved "west". Christopher and Susan had 5 daughters and 4 sons.I have family trees from Christopher to present on my direct line.I also have a lot of information on his other Children and thier families through the 1800's thanks to a book, "The Bowman Family", written by Christophers greatgrandson Reverend Schadrach Laycock Bowman in 1885.In this book Shadrach lists the births, deaths, and family ancedotes of his cousins, aunts, uncles etc. In the family tree I have over 200 Bowmans and the surnames of many spouses and children. Some of the more popular family names are:Sarah(Sallie); Elizabeth; Thomas; George; Samuel; John;Mary; Lydia; and Wesley. Some of the more interesting names are:Huldah; Hiram; Ezekial; Morris; Penina; and Phoebe. Some of the surnames from spouses are:Britton/Brittain; Brown; Clemm; Emory; Freas; Fellows; Gearhart; Gilder; Glenn; Grimm; Hartman; Haughawout; Hirst; Kalfus; Laycock; Lord; Millard; Parks; Payne; Phelps and many more. Many of the men became Ministers, and many of the women married Ministers. Some fought in the American Revolution, others in the War of 1812, and still more in the Civil war. They scattered generation by generation. From Pennsylvania to Nebraska, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, California, and more. Some knew Abraham Lincoln, some William T Sherman, they founded towns and started businesses. I am willing to share all I have with others. |
