BOYD; Paternal ancestor and father-in-law of James NEWELL.
James NEWELL, born 1795-1800 NC, is the oldest NEWELL ancestor I have identified in my father's line. He married Sarah BOYD, born July 8, 1807 Mecklenburg Co., NC, the daughter of Robert Boyd (see Related Links below), born about 1781 and Veteran of the War of 1812 from Mecklenburg Co. James settled with his family and other related families in Tuscaloosa Co., AL about 1830. From this family, my main focus has been the compilation of the Descendants of James NEWELL, but have collected many notes on other NEWELL families along the way. To see this file, scroll down and click on the "Descendants of James Newell" link below the photo section. The "Book Report" on James NEWELL provides an index that might be more helpful when looking for a specific individual.
Last update: Jun 25, 2010. Updates from census records, cemetery records, SS/RR registration cards, and Alabama Death records (currently has numerous transcription errors). PLEASE HELP ME identify my Newell "stragglers" listed under the "Unknown Newell" page (link #4 on 1st page)
Henrich JUNGHANS, christened Feb 3, 1740, is our first YOUNGHANSE ancestor born in America. Henrich's parents and older siblings came from Wuerttemberg, Ger. I have found over 50 variations in spellings of this German ancestral name, the most common being YOUNGHANS(E), with and without the "E". Edward L. YOUNGHANCE came to Fayette Co., AL in early 1840s, married Sarah YERBY and moved the family to MS, TX, and then back to AL, with many descendants born and raised in Lamar Co. Last update: May 16, 2009. Updates from census data, other records, and new family info from several Younghans(e) correspondents. I have deleted the file "Ancestors of Henrich JUNGHANS" and replaced it with "Descendants of Matthaus JUNGHANSS" to give a better perspective on the actual immigrant family that came to America c1740.
Robert BOYD, Veteran of the War of 1812 and father-in-law of James NEWELL. Robert received Bounty Land Warrants for his service in the War. He appears to have arrived in Tuscaloosa Co., AL sometime between 1830 and 1835. His sons-in-law James Newell, William Kizziah, Jr., and Robert Kizziah also arrived in Tuscaloosa around that time.
