Descendants of James Newell

4. UNKNOWN2 NEWELL (JAMES1) was born Abt. 1830 in AL.

Notes for U
NKNOWN NEWELL:
Since it has not yet been possible to identify this potential Newell descendant, this file will be used to attach a number of unknown stragglers that have been identified from various censuses. As they are clarified and identified, they will be moved to the appropriate ancestor file, or removed. There are several Newells that appear to be related to James and Sarah based on census association, but their relationship has not been established. Some were actually in the James and Sarah Newell household on some censuses, or living adjacently or nearby on other censuses. Therefore, for record keeping purposes, these Newells will be attached to the Unknown Newell ancestor as a temporary pageholder..

  Notes for ELIZABETH NEWELL:
In 1870 Elizabeth age 18, George age 14, and Mary age 12 are living in the James and Sarah Newell household. These are Elizabeth Martha's children.
IWritten "Elizabeth" 18 AL NC NC in 1880, and Mary age 20, are listed as "GDau" in the household of James and Sarah Newell. Elizabeth should be 28 at this time.

  Notes for MARY A. NEWELL:
Listed "Mary" 1 AL in 1860 and living in the John and Elizabeth Turner household. (I believe those pages were mis-numbered and Mary, who is listed at the top of the page, is actually a continuation of Martha's household which has George W. on the bottom line. The John Turner household has additional blank lines below them and makes Mary's following page listing non-sensical.)
In 1870 Mary is living in her grandparents James and Sarah Newell household.
Written "Nary" 20 AL NC NC, and Elizabeth age 18, are listed as "GDau" living with James and Sarah in 1880. (Elizabeth should be age 28).
In 1910, she is listed as "Mary A., niece" in the household of Sarah H. Newell.
In 1920, she is listed as "sister" but should be "niece" in Sarah H. Newell household.

Notes for J
OHN A(LEXANDER) NEWELL:
Written "John A." 13 AL in 1850. John may have been enumerated twice in 1850: (1) as stated and (2) Tuscaloosa Co., AL Dist 1 #641 "John Newell" 12 AL living with James Pierson, an adjacent family. This same scenario exists with his brother, James G.
In 1860, there is a John Newell in Fayette Co. living with Martin Lawrence at Millport. The household #416 is quite near #412 Matthew Newell, and in 1870, Emily Newell, widow of John Newell is #7 on the census near Robert Newell who is #2 on that census. John's Civil War record indicated that he was a teamster.
Emily Newell's Civil War Pension Application indicates John's dod as Jul 4, 1862 and was a Pvt.

MILY ABBOT:
Written "Emaline 12" on the 1850 census. The Dobbins household, including one-year old Drury, is #289 on this census.
Written "Emily" 30 AL in 1870. She is the head of household with 7-year old William.
Written "Emily" 41 AL SC SC in 1880 and living in the Drury Dobbins 31 AL household as a housekeeper.
Written "Emily" 64 AL SC SC in 1900 widowed and living in her son John William's household. The 1900 census indicates that she has had one child and one living. Census states dob as Mar 1836.
Written "Emily" 73 AL SC SC in 1910 widowed and living in the Lando and Nancy Wigginton household. They are four households from her son John W. Newell and family. She is identified on the census as "mother" and indicates that she has borne four children and three are living. This implies that Lando is one of her children. Lando's birthdate matches Glovinia's and they could have been twins - relationship still being researched.
Emily's maiden name provided by Wade Whitley via email 30 Nov 2006.
      Not found in 1920.
