40. Samuel NEWCOMER Senior was born about 1769 in , Lancaster, PA.(19) Gary Shaw gave Washington County, Maryland, as Samuel Newcomer's birth place. He died on 7 May 1811 in Beaver Creek, Washington, MD. (21) He was buried in Brethren Church Cemetery, Beaver Creek, Washington, MD.
He was married to Elizabeth HUFFERD (daughter of
Jacob HUFFERD and Elizabeth) in 1792.
(21) Elizabeth HUFFERD
(21) was born about 1775 in , , MD. She died on 14 Apr 1805 in Beaver
Creek, Washington, MD. Elizabeth Hufferd's name can also be spelled "Huffer."
Samuel NEWCOMER Senior and Elizabeth HUFFERD had the following children:
+120 i.
Nancy NEWCOMER.
121 ii.
Elizabeth NEWCOMER(21) was born after
1795.(8)
+122 iii.
Mary NEWCOMER.
+123 iv.
Samuel NEWCOMER Junior.
+124 v.
Jacob NEWCOMER.
+125 vi.
Catharine NEWCOMER.
+126 vii.
Susan NEWCOMER.
He was married to Elizabeth
"Betsy" FUNK (daughter of Samuel FUNK Junior and
Maria Barbara HOUSER) about 1805.
(8) John Newcomer noted that Samuel Newcomer died 7 years after marrying
Elizabeth Funk. He died in 1811. That places his marriage to Elizabeth Funk
in 1804. However, Samuel's first wife, Elizabeth Huffer did not die until 1805.
Another conflict is that Samuel's and Elizabeth Funk's first child, Susan, was
born in 1805, before the death of Samuel's first wife. The dates may be wrong,
or, if the dates are correct, Susan Newcomer may be the daughter of Samuel and
Elizabeth Huffer, not Elizabeth Funk. Furthermore, 14 April 1805 was given as
the marriage date for Elizabeth Funk and Henry Newcomer, but that date is unlikely
for them. The 14 April 1805 date may be the date of Elizabeth Funk and Samuel
Newcomer. There are other confusions relating to the two Elizabeth Funks.
Elizabeth "Betsy" FUNK(73)

Elizabeth Funk's birth year as 1786. She died on 26 Jan 1867 in , Washington,

Elizabeth Funk did not abide by Samuel Newcomer's will. She elected to take
her thirds, according to Lee Garlock. I think this refers to ownership of the
farm land, but I am not sure. Samuel NEWCOMER Senior and Elizabeth "Betsy"
FUNK had the following children:
