Louis (Carolus Ludovicus) emmigrated to the United States c. 1890 from Belgium. He was born and lived in Kieldrecht, and would have emmigrated via Antwerp. We're beginning to put together some family information from Belgium, thanks to a couple of distant relatives there who have shared their family research. What I would most like to find are details about what Louis did for a living, why he chose the timing of his emmigration, and why he chose to settle in Kansas City. Louis married Leona Catherine De Meulemester, who also emmigrated from Belgium to the U.S. c. 1895. Louis and Leona settled in Kansas City, Kansas. The city at the time was called "Todelope", which later became Argentine, KS, and then became part of Kansas City. We have no written record of the name (Todelope), so we don't know how accurate that is. Any verification of the town's name at the time would be appreciated. We believe it's of French origin (perhaps a small township near a bend in the river). It may have been a neighborhood name used by the people who lived in the area, but never written down in any records. If you are researching this family and would like to compare information, please contact me. |
