I'm tracing my ancestry back to Devonshire England, where my Great Grandfather George B. Nicholls, born circa August 05, 1833, was from when he moved with his parents (at the age of 1-6 years) to Binbrook, Ontario, Canada. I've just discovered his parents' names (George Nicholls and Sarah Babcock) and that they were located in Binbrook when George B. purchased his farm in Caistor Centre in 1857. Previously I had thought he (GBN) came from England alone. There had been no recollection or mention within our family of any other relatives in the area. Binbrook is only a few miles to the West from Caistor Centre and this lack of interaction is rather hard to understand. On a trip to the Ontario Archives in Toronto on September 13, 1999 I discovered George's parents, Brother, Uncle, Aunt and Cousin living in Binbrook on the 1861 Census. He age was listed as 26 in the 1861 Census and his brother 20. He was listed as having been born in Devonshire (as were his parents George and Sarah) and his brother in Upper Canada, meaning the family had been in Canada (Binbrook or elsewhere) between 20 and 26 years. George B. subsequently bought a farm in 1857 in Caistor Centre, Ontario, Canada (near Hamilton and Grimsby, around the corner of Lake Ontario from Toronto). He's buried in the Caistor Centre (Ontario) Baptist Church cemetery at the corner of the Abingdon and Sixteen Roads. He had married Sarah Bush in 1865 and died Feb 28, 1897 age 64, Sarah died April 29, 1922 at age 84. Sarah's parents were Samuel and Anne Bush, both natives of Sussex England. Sarah may have been born in England also. Their children: George Washington Nicholls was born January 4, 1866. David W. June 08, 1867, Victoria December 16, 1868, Sara Anne July 24, 1875, and Jane on June 10, 1877. Busy parents! Their 3rd son, Samuel Newton Nicholls born September 27, 1871 moved to the USA in the 1909 to Pittsfield, Massachusetts (possibly at the University of Iowa in Ames, Iowa for a while prior) where he lived until 1959 having a son George Alton Nicholls, my Father, in 1922. I've accounted for almost all the North American Nicholls relatives from George B. Nicholls to present. I have not yet accounted for his siblings and his father's brother's family in Binbrook.
