Peter James "Jimmy" Tatum Peter James "Jimmy" Tatum was born July 12, 1850 in Pine Level, Autauga Co, Alabama. He was the youngest child of Thomas and Martha Martin Tatum of Autauga County. Jimmy married Martha Frances "Mattie" Scott on August 11, 1870 in Montgomery, Alabama. Mattie was the daughter of Andrew J. and Rebecca Scott. According to Jimmy's obituary, Mattie's father, A.J. Scott, served as pastor of the Pine Level Methodist Church at one time. Jimmy was a farmer and they lived in the Pine Level area all of their lives. They were parents of eight children: Emma Cornelia Tatum was born October 13, 1870, married Charles "Hunter" Oates, and died February 15, 1927. Thomas Epts Tatum was born August 22, 1872, married Josephine Garner, and died April 7, 1948. Rebecca Ann "Becky" was born March 13, 1874 and died soon after the birth of her son, Paul, on October 26, 1894. James Louis Tatum, Sr. was born August 20, 1877, married Sarah Ella Parsons in Montgomery, Alabama on December 24, 1905. He was found "practically frozen to death" during a rare snowstorm, on January 17, 1948. Andrew Jackson Tatum was born June 20, 1880 and married Pearl, who had one daughter when they married. They had no other children. Katherine Gizzell "Kate" Tatum was born July 6, 1883 and died November 24, 1967. She was unmarried, and helped raise her brother John's children after his wife's death. Martha Frances "Fannie" Tatum was born May 29, 1886, and married Cleve Kenney. She died about 1921. John Wesley Tatum was born August 17, 1889, married Jincy Lee Pace, and died February 6, 1964. Court records reveal that Jimmy acknowledged one illegitimate child. He and Mattie lived separately after about 1900. Mattie died as a results of injuries received in buggy accident on October 26, 1924. Jimmy died of a heart attack on September 12, 1934.
