Find Family

During the past fifteen years I have traveled the U.S. and Germany in search of information regarding the NIDA/NIDAY/NIDY/VONADA and von NIDA families. It has been a most pleasant journey with rewards beyond explanation. I have met many cousins in person, by phone, e-mail and s-mail, who also have an interest in genealogy and the pathways of our ancestors. We have shared our data with each other and the result is an accumulation of over 32,000 names, all connecting to a common source, in my current database. This invaluable information is now available in a hardback, library quality book with more than one hundred and fifty pictures, some over 100 years old. The family crest is imprinted on the cover in gold. There are maps and histories of the areas where many of our ancestors lived. This publication has over 1,600 pages and is fully indexed with over 20,000 names. Included are over 1,600 surnames with many ADKINS, CARPER, CLARK, COLLINS, CRINER, CRITCHFIELD, DAVIS, DEWITT, EPLING, EVANS, HARRIS, HENSLEY, JOHNSON, LANTHORN, LASLEY, MULLINS, PORTER, ROBINSON, SIMMONS, SMITH, THOMAS, and WHITE families.
We sincerely hope that this book will encourage others in the preservation of our heritage for many future generations.

If you have any questions regarding our family, please send an e-mail and I will respond as quickly as possible. It is always a thrill to meet another cousin and exchange family information.

The third edition of the Family von Nida book that was published in Dec 2004 is almost sold out but there are a VERY few copies left on a first come first served basis. If you wish to order a copy, please contact Jack Nida at rjnida@bellsouth.net

Here is a MUST read for everyone that is interested in the emigration of the Johann David von NIDA family from the time of his arrival in Philadelphia in 1748 until his death. It is a novel that is based on factual travels of this pioneer family and the hardships and experiences they must have endured. The author is Melvin G. Nida, a retired professor of Salem University in West Virginia. His research of our family history dates back for many years as he traced their footsteps from Pennsylvania through Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, and then to Wisconsin. A picture of the first Niday house in the Shenandoah Valley is on the cover of this book and it has 110 pages of exciting stories about their travels. If you would like to obtain a copy of Melvin's book, please send your name and shipping address to me no later than 01 May 2008 at my new e-mail address, rjnida@bellsouth.net.
