This photo was taken at the Krieg cottage in July 1943 in Wisconsin's Calumet County. The family sends its son/brother off to war. L to R: Lorane (Lorraine) Krieg Stecker, Bessie Cobb Krieg, Carl Krieg, Jr., Carl Kreig, Sr., and Sylvia Krieg Kruck - Just prior to Carl Jr. (Bud) going into the Army. In the same month this photo was taken, the Allies landed on Sicily, the German offensive in Russia was floundering, and the Allied bombing of German cities, such as Hamburg, intensified.
