WOMAN LOSES HER LIFE AS HOME BURNS 4-Year-Old Body Rescued in Fire Near Beverly (Special to The Signal) Beverly.---Mrs. Luther J. CLINE, 21, died early today at Marietta Memorial hospital from burns sustained last night in a fire which destroyed her home near Hackney, six mines north of here in Morgan county. Her sister, Mrs. Brady ADAMS, 30, of Marietta, is in grave condition at the Marietta hospital from burns sustained in the blaze and is not expected to live. The fire occurred when Mrs. CLINE poured crude oil on smoldering coals in an open grate in an effort to heat the house. The flames engulfed her, burning the clothes from her body. Mrs. ADAMS, who was in a bed room upstairs, preparing her four-year-old son, Harold, for bed; was attracted by Mrs. CLINE’S screams. She immediately wrapped a blanket around Mrs. CLINE and took her outside and then rushed back into the house to rescue the child. Her clothes were burned from her body as she carried the child down the flaming stairs. The trio managed to get into the CLINE automobile, which was parked in front of the house, and Mrs. CLINE, drove about 50 feet before she collapsed, the car going into a ditch. By this time neighbors were attracted by the blaze and Jon CONN was among the first to reach the scene. He brought the two women and the boy here in his truck. They were later removed to the Mindhat ambulance and taken to the hospital. Mrs. CLINE died about two hours later. The Beverly fire department was summoned to the scene of the accident, but the blaze had gained such headway that it was impossible to save the structure, which (Turn to Page Two) pg. 2 col. 3 Burns Fatal To Morgan-Co.
