Spellings of names are copied as printed in the newspaper. I have noticed many misspellings of names, probably due to the fact that the newspaper printed the name as it sounded. WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO NEWS January 3, 1889 Mrs. Stephen B. SMITH, of Little Muskingum, died, recently. January 3, 1889 Captain Albert CHANDLER, of Belpre, died at the beginning of last week with drepsy. January 3, 1889 The benerable William BARLETT died at his home at Little Hocking, lately. He was 83 years old. January 3, 1889 W. W. MORRIS, of Layman, died, recently, of accute rheumatism, after a sickness of only a few days. January 3, 1889 Mr. Jacob. WAGNER, of Muskingum township, died Monday morning, of last week, of typhoid fever, aged about 55 years. January 3, 1889 Mrs. Amand JEWELL died at her home in Harmar recently, aged 70 years. She was born in Reedsville, Meigs county, OHio, and had resided in Harmar since 1844. January 10, 1889 Mr. Samuel LaFABER deid at his home near Marietta, Sunday, of last week in the 56 year of his age. He leaves a wife and four children. January 10, 1889 Mrs. Ella M. PACK, of Marietta, widow of the late Capt. Lewis PACK, and Adminstratrix of his estate, has brought suit against the C. & M. R’y Comapny for $10,000. Capt. PACK was a conductor on the C. & M. R’y and was killed at Cambridge, Jan. 6th of last year. January 17, 1889 Mr. Wm. RIDENOR, of Marietta, died on the fourth inst., after protracted sickness.. January 17, 1889 Mrs. Vesta HUMPHREY, wife of a. W. HUMPHREY, died at her home near Beverly, recently, of typhoid fever. January 17, 1889 John MONROE, an old resident of Wesley township, this county, died at his son’s, in Missouri, recently at the age of 73. January 24, 1889 Mr. John HOFF, a well esteemed citizen recently died at his late home on Buell’s Run, Newport township in his 82d year. January 24, 1889 Mr. James POSEY, of Little Muskingum, died, recently, at the age of 86 years, of general debility, after a sickness of nine weeks. January 24, 1889 Abrah PLATT, of Greenbrier, Monroe county, committed sucide at Hohman, this county, on the 7th inst. He shot himself through the head and died instantly. January 31, 1889 A. J. HAYNES, of Decatur, recently died, aged 74 years. January 31, 1889 Mr. Lias GILL, of Liberty township died, recently. He was a highly esteemed gentleman, and respected by all who knew him. January 31, 1889 Abe DILLON, of Wesley township committed suicide on the 15th inst., by shooting himself with a rifle. He was found in his barn in sitting position with the muzzle of the gun against his side. He was only 25 years old. He left a letter alleging that the deed was caused by family troubles. February 7, 1889 Mrs. Lucy LAWRENCE died at her home in beverly; recently, aged about 81 years. February 7, 1889 Charles KETTE, of Matamoras, an aged gentleman, died last week, at the age of 69 years. February 7, 1889 Mrs. H. B. BRIDGE died at her home on Coal Run, recently. Her sickness was complication of diseases. February 7, 1889 Mrs. A. A. GROW, sister of Judge CHAMBERLAIN, of Marietta, recently died at her late home in Pomeroy. February 7, 1889 Johnnie, the four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred KRAMER, Marietta, died recently of congestion of the lungs. February 7, 1889 Mrs. Henry SHEETS died at her home near Lower Newport last Saturday. Only one sister, Mrs. Owen FRANKS, of Marietta, remains of a family of thirteen. February 14th-- Mrs. Henry SHEETS, an aged and highly respected lady, of Lower Newport, died last Friday, of erysipelas. February 7, 1889 John POWER recently died very suddenly at his home n Warren township, of heart disease; enjoyed his usual health up the the monent of his death. Age about 60. Family, wife and three children. February 14th--- Mr. John POWER, of Warren, died, suddenly, recently, aged 60 years. February 7, 1889 Prof. R. J. SMITH, of Beverly, died last Sunday, of pneumonia, after an illness of only eight days. He was born in Virginia in 1829, graduated at Washngton College, Pa., and since the war at least has resided in Ohio. He had been 14 years in Beverly Academy and for two years past in addition to other duties was employed as pastor of the Presbyterian church at Beverly. February 14, 1889 Mr. George QUINN, of Palmer township, aged 84 years, died recently. February 14, 1889 Mrs. Abigail BROUGH, of Belpre, died on the 2d inst., in the 71st year of her age. She was the widow of Charles BROUGH, a soldier in the Mexican war, and one of the early proprietors of the Cincinnati Enquirer. Her husband was also the brother of John BROUGH, the well known war Governor of Ohio. June 6, 1889 Mrs. Caroline A. BROUGH, widow of John BROUGH, former Governer of Ohio, also a former editor of the Democratic paper in Marietta, recently died, at Marietta. February 21, 1889 Mr. George HECKATHORN, of Grandview, died on the 6th inst. February 21, 1889 Mr. Ely WILSON, a former resident of Warner, this county, was killed in a coal mine at Byesville, recently, by a large piece of slate falling upon him. February 21, 1889 Danie SMITH, aged seven years, who lived with his father on Ohio street, Marietta, fell off the ferry-flat at the foot of Front street, last Saturday evening, and was drewned. His body was found a few minutes after he fell in, but live could not be restored. February 21, 1889 Mrs. Sarah MORSE, widow of the late Justus MORSE, and mother of Mrs. J. L. RECKARD, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. RECKARD, in Marietta, Tuesday morning of last week in the 80th year of her age. She was in her usual good health up to within a half of the time of her death, which was caused by heart trouble. February 28, 1889 Hiram THORP, of Matamoras, died, recently, in his 65th year. February 28, 1889 Mr. Brooks DICKERSON, of near Waterford, died lately of malarial fever, in the 31st year of his age. February 28, 1889 Mrs. Susan PENWELL, aged 82 years, died at the home of her daughter in Waterford township, recently. March 7, 1889 Mrs. CLARK, of Beverly recently died in her 83d year. March 7, 1889 Mrs. Bridget RILEY, widow of Patrick RILEY, of Belpre, died on the 23d of last month aged 78 years. March 7, 1889 The six months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel BEST, of Salem township, died Sunday morning of last week. March 7, 1889 Mrs. G. W. BRUGESS, who made her home with Hon. W. P. CUTLER, of Marietta, died at his residence last Thursday at the age of ninety years. March 14, 1889 Rev. L. ROSENKARUZ, pastor of the St. Paul German church, of Marietta, died in that city, last Thursday about noon, unexpectedly to his friends. His trouble was dropsy. March 14, 1889 Mrs. Frank WILLIS, aged thirty years, living in Harmar, died under rather peculiar circumstances, Tuesday last. She was taken sick in the morning and said she would died at exactly seven o’clock in the evening, and death came at two minutes of seven. March 21, 1889 Mrs. Mary MAAS, widow of the late John MAAS, of Marietta, died Wednesday morning of last week of consumption. March 21, 1889 Mrs. Elizabeth Morgan EDGERTON, wife of Luther EDGERTON, of Marietta died Wednesday of last week after a three month sickness. She was 79 years old. March 28, 1889 Miss Phebe L. RIPLEY died, recently, at her home in Adams township, aged 18 years. March 28, 1889 Miss India JOHNSON, of Marietta, a pretty servant girl seventeen years old, revealed the fact, last Saturday, that she had give birth to a child at her boarding house at that place. Search was made, and the babe was found in a slop jar. Around the neck of the child was a stocking, wound so tightly that its head was nearly severed from the body. A post-mortem examination revealed the fact that the child had lived after birth. A warrant for the arrest of Miss JOHNSON was issued, and was to be served as soon as she recovers from her present condition. April 4, 1889 Samuel BUZZARD, Esq., of Harmar died last Thrusday morning at his late home, of general debility and chronic trouble from which he had suffered some time. He was one of the most highly respected and esteemed citizens of Harmar. April 4, 1889 the death of Prof. O. H. MITCHELL, of Marietta college, occured at one o’clock this morning. Prof. MITCHELL was a graduated of Marietta College, and in 1881 was chosen to the Professorship made vacant by the death of Prof. ROSSITER. He was thirty-seven years old, and about six years ago was married to a daughter of Dr. HAWKS, formerly pastor of the Congregational Church of Marietta. He is the third Professor of the college that has died, within a year. April 4, 1889 Colonel Enoch S. McINTOSH, of Beverly, this county, died last Saturday morning, aged 96. He was born in Marietta in what was known as the old Red house or block-house, May 23d, 1793. When quite young his family moved to Clarksburg, Va., and remained there until 1785, when they returned to Marietta. At the age of 12, he began laying vrick, and a number of house still standing are his work in early days. He was married November 26th, 1816, to Elizabeth SEELY, who still survives him. He started a store in 1823, investing $500 in stock, and made considerable money at the enterpirse, which, when started, was advised aginst by his friends. He also bought a mill and continued in that business until 1850, and since that time has been in the real estate and banking business, starting the First National Bank of Beverly. He has accumulated a large fortune. April 11, 1889 Mrs. Sarah S. DANIELS died at her home in Marietta on Tuesday of last week aged 97 years. April 11, 1889 Prudence, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. EVANS, died at their home in Harmar, Wednesday night of last week, of scarlet fever. Her age was five years. April 11, 1889 Mr. John SKINNER, aged 70, died on the 9th of this month at his late home in Lawrence township, this county, after-brief illness. April 11, 1889 Mrs. Mary A. GALLAGHER, of Harmar, died on Tuesday evening of last week after a prolonged illness. She had been a resident of Harmar for upwards of 40 years, and was a highly esteemed lady. April 11, 1889 Hon. William P. CUTLER, of Marietta, died at one o’clock, last Thursday afternoon. He was one of the most distinguished citizens in this part of the State, having served in Congress; also, as Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives and in other places of public trust. He was a man of great intellectual strength and a leader in public enterpirses. He was seventy- seven years of age. His funeral took place last Saturday. April 25, 1889 Samuel LEE, of Wesley township, died, recently. He was in his 60th year. April 25, 1889 Mr. Nicholas EMGE, father of Mr. Chris. EMGE, died at the home of his son in Warren township, recently, athe the advanced age of 88 years. April 25, 1889 Mr. Samuel H. FULLER died very suddenly at his home on Church street, Marietta, recently, while sitting in a rocking chair. He was in teh 84th year of his age and had been in fair health. April 25, 1889 Mr. Meritt JUDD, a pioneer of Marietta, recently died at his late home at Council Bluffs, Iowa, aged 85. He came with his brother from New England to Marietta at the age of 15, and two years later returned with him on foot to bring the JUDD family to that then new settlement. April 25, 1889 alexander CAMPBELL, on of the oldest and most prominent citizens in this section of the State, died at his home in Cutler, recently, and was buried by the Masons and G. A. R. Post. He was a prominent railroad conductor, and helped to build many of the railroads in this part of the State. May 2, 1889 Mrs. Sarah NEWLEN, of Newport township, died Sunday evening of last week, aged 93 years. May 2, 1889 Mr. Joseph HUMPHREY, one of the early settlers of Watertown, died in that township recently aged about 85 years. May 2, 1889 Mr. James GOULD of Marion county, Iowa, died on the 15th of this month. Mr. GOULD was born in this county, Feb. 1st, 1835. In 1861 he married Miss Elizabeth LAMB, served in the army and in the spring of 1865 moved with his family to Iowa. May 9, 1889 Mr. Luther GREENE, of Newell’s Run, son of Charles Greene, died, recently, of typhoid fever, aged 27 years. May 9, 1889 M. David M. REED, of Harmar, died Sunday morning of last week, aged 73 years. He was a highly respected citizen. May 16, 1889 Miss BANFIELD, aged 30 years, died of consumption at her home at Canfield’s Crossing, in Barlow township, recently. May 16, 1889 At Marietta, last Saturday, an infant about a week old was with a rope about its neck was found in the Muskingum river. No clue. May 16, 1889 Luther Alonzo GREENE,a ged twenty-eight years, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. GREENE, and twin brother of Charles L. GREENE, died at his late home in Newport this county, recently, after long and painful illness. May 23, 1889 Mr. John PLUMER, of Newport township recently died, in the 90th year of his age. He was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, in 1789 and came to this county in 1802. May 23, 1889 Mr. Andrew ROSS, aged 77, who was engaged in merchandizing in Marietta for many years, and was an upright and honorable business man, recently died at his late home in that city. May 30, 1889 The wife of Herman NEEDER, of Marietta, died one day last week. May 30, 1889 Mr. Geo. L. FLANDERS, of Harmar, died Tuesday evening, of last week of consumption,aged about 25 years. He was a young man of excellent character. May 30, 1889 Mrs. Elizabeth REDENHOUR, aged 56, of Marietta, widow of the late Wm. REDINHOUR, of that city, was cound Monday morning of last week by the woman who came to do the washingt, lying in bed unconscious. She died shortly after. May 30, 1889 Miss Rebecca D. NYE, daughter of the late Anselm T. NYE, Esq., died at the family home, in Marietta, Friday morning, after a lingering illness of ten weeks. Her parents, were early pioneers of Marietta, her nother still survives her. May 30, 1889 Reb. John B. WEST, father of J. B. WEST, of Marietta, died at his home at Newport, Washington county, Tuesday of last week, at the age of 90 years. Father WEST was an early itinerant Methodist preacher and his early experiences were of that character so vividly broght out in the lives of such men as Peter CARTWRIGHT, James FINLEY and others. June 6, 1889 A young man named James B. ROSS, whose parents reside near Bellaire, recnetly fell from the steamer Van Metre, on which he was employed, near Lowell, and was drowned. June 13, 1889 Mr. Wm. ELDRIDGE, Surveyor, of this county, lost two brothers and his mother in a recent horrible disaster at Johnstown. June 20th-- The Marietta Times says: the motality loss by the Johnstown flood to Mr. Wm. ELDRIDGE, of this county, is as follows: His mother, Sarah F. ELDRIDGE; his brother, Pennel; His brother Samuel and family; his brother Abram and family; his brother Elmer’s wife and children and the family of his brother Edward. Elmer and Edward are known to have escaped. June 20, 1889 Mrs. Deborah ARBOR, of Harmar, died, recently, aged 78 years. June 20, 1889 Peter STOUT, a colored man, died at his home near Williamstown, recently, aged 95 years. June 20, 1889 Mrs. Mary ALCOCK whose death occurred Tuesday morning of last week came to Marietta in 1831 and had resided at her home in that city where her death too place 51 years. Her sickness lasted only a few days and up to within a week she had been remarkably active for one of her years. June 27, 1889 Mr. J. H. SCOTT, aged about 45, proprietor of the Bradford House, Marietta, was Tuesday of last week fatally injured by being thrown under the wheels of his wagon while attempting to stop the horse in its effors to run away. He died as a result on the following day. July 11, 1889 Mrs. Fannie MARSH, of Belpre, aged 89(80) years, died on Saturday, Jan. 29th. She was a model christian woman. July 18, 1889 Mrs. Sabra BURLINGAME, of Harmar, died at her homein that place recently, of abcess of the liver, aged 58 years. July 18, 1889 It is now reported that Harvey DUNCAN, who was drowned recently in the Ohio River near Belpre, and whose death was supposed to have been accidental, was deliberately murdered. July 25, 1889 Mr. Hiram DEVOL died at his home in Muskingum township, recently, aged 78 years. July 25, 1889 Fred DAVIS died at his home on Sixth street, in Marietta, on Tuesday morning of last week. July 25, 1889 The remains of R. DAVIS, who died at Denver, were recently brought to Beverly for interment. July 25, 1889 Wm TORNES, Jr., son of Wm. TORNES, of Harmar, recently died at Birmingham, Ala. He had been in the South some time, engaged as a druggist, which profession he studied and practed with W. H. STYER of Marietta. August 1, 1889 (This one was hard to read) Mrs. Catharine CLANCEY (CHANSEY), aged 80(?), died Wednesday of last week at her home near Marietta. August 1, 1889 Wm. HILL, Esq., of Cow Run died at his home, Tuesday morning, of last week, aged eighty-three years. August 1, 1889 Miss Adalin Belle SNYDER, in her 26th year, daughter, of Mr. P. M. SNYDER, the Marietta merchant, died at noon on Tuesday of last week of gastric fever, after suffering about two weeks. August 1, 1889 Miss Nellie GREEN, aged 24, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irenus A. GREEN, formerly of Marietta, died, recently, at her late home in Columbus, of consumption. August 8, 1889 Mrs. Caroline LEWIS, of Belpre, died recently. August 8, 1889 Mrs. Lucinda A. BINGHAM, a widow of the late Eli BINGHAM, Sr., died at the home of her son in Watertown, recently, after a short illness. August 8, 1889 Prof. John KENDRICK died at his home in Marietta at five o’clock Tuesday morning of last week in the 87th year of his age. Prof. KENDRICK was connected with Marietta College for many year, but for an umber of years he ahd ceased active college work. August 15, 1889 Mrs. Siba BUELL SLOCOMB, who was born at Marietta, eighty- three years ago, and who lived in Washington county many years, recently died at Rochester, N. Y. of apoplexy. She was the daughter of General BUELL, one of the early settlers of this county. August 22, 1889 Dr. C. C. HILDRETH, of Zanesville, but formerly of Marietta, when he was born April 27th, 1811, died Sunday of last week. August 22, 1889 The funeral services of Mrs. W. C. McCARTY, late of Marietta, took place at her home in that city, Monday, afternoon of last week, Rev. T. M. LESLIE, of Athens, officiating. August 22, 1889 Jacob MUELLER, aged about 40, who has only been in this country a short time, died at Marietta last Sunday from injury recieved on the preceeding day at Rice’s refinery in that city by a falling man-head. He and his wife separated some time ago on account of domestic troubles. No other immediate friends being there to claim his body, it was buried by the township authorities. (In the next paragraph, it states that Jacob MUELLER was one of 9 men selected as a delegate to the Democratic State Convention). August 29, 1889 Mr. John EDWARDS, of Gantzville, about a mile below Little Hocking, died recently. September 5, 1889 Mr. Amos ROBERTS, of Waterford township, died on the 19th. He was a man of wealth and was highly respected. September 5, 1889 Walter TURNBULL, for many years a worthy citizen of Marietta, died recently at his home on Fifteen, in his 80th year. September 5, 1889 The funeral of Thomas WARD, aged 35, who died of paralysis at the homeof his father in Barlow township, took place at Little Hocking last Friday. September 5, 1889 Mr. Orinda NORMAN, widow of John NORMAN, died at her home on Washington street, Marietta, last Sunday, of heart disease, aged seventy-two years. September 5, 1889 The funeral of William RICHARDSON, late a patient of the Athens Asylum, took place at Marietta, Tuesday of last week, under charge of the Odd Fellows of that city. September 12, 1889 James ORMISTON, 2d, of Barlow, died Wednesday evening of last week in the ?4(84) year of his age. September 12, 1889 Mr. Fred. A. LAMPING died at his home in Matamoras, recently, of cancer of the throat, aged 70 years. Nov. 28th--- The estate of Frederick A. LAMPING, of Matamors, who died a short time ago, received last month from the Mutu-Benefit Life Insurance Company the sum of $10,ooo, the amount for which the deceased was insured. September 12, 1889 Mrs. Harvey HOLLAND, aged 60, of Ludlow township was found dead in bed. She was afficted with asthma and it is supposed that she choked to death. September 12, 1889 Mrs. Matilda CHAMBERS, of Marietta, died at her home on Second street in that city on Sunday of last week. She was an estimable lady and many friends mour her death. September 19, 1889 James T. GOODNO, aged 72 of Center Belpre, died recently. September 19, 1889 Mr. Rice C. BARTON died recently at his home in Lawrence township, aged almost sixty years. September 19, 1889 Mr. John LEONHART, of Marietta, died at his home in the 4th Ward, Tuesday of last week, aged about seventy years. September 19, 1889 Mr. James H. MALANEY died at his home in the Fourth Ward, Marietta last Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, aged 60 years. September 19, 1889 Mr. George GARDNER, of Vincent, died, last Thrusday afternoon following protracted sickness which resulted from a fall in Marietta last February. September 19, 1889 William HADLEY, who lived just east of Marietta, died Tuesday of last week. He was born in Roxburyshire, Scotland, in 1814, come to this country in 1842, coming direct to Marietta. September 26, 1889 Mrs. W. F. ROBERTSON died at her home in Harmar, Sunday morning of last after a protracted illness, in the 65th year of her age. September 12, 1889 Mrs. M. G. KNOX, of Harmar, wife of Capt. KNOX, died at her home in that place last Monday, after a long siege of complicated sickness. October 3, 1889 Mrs. Mary WEBBE died at her home in Harmar, Tuesday evening of last week, aged about 26 years. She leaves two little girls, aged 6 and 3 years. October 10, 1889 Mr. James REPPERT died at his home at Scott’s landing, in Warren township, Tuesday night of last week, in the 78th year of his age, of heart disease. November 7, 1889 Mr. Madison MORSE died at his home in Lower Salem, on the 21st of last month, aged 84 years. November 7, 1889 Mrs. Caroline Webster BARNES, wife of Rev. Jeremiah BARNES, died in Marietta last Sunday evening. She was upwards of 50 years ago a teacher of very decided ability in the Female Seminary then maintained in Marietta. November 21, 1889 Mrs. Eliza HILDRETH died recently at her late home two miles east of Marietta. November 21, 1889 C. J. KIDD, of Sand Hill, an old resident and a substantial citizen recently died athis home after a long and severe illness. November 28, 1889 Mrs. Margaret J. MORRIS, aged 60, wife of J. H. MORRIS, Esq., of Beverly, died recently. November 28, 1889 Miss Maggie, daughter of Mr. Fred BROOKMIER, died Wednesday evening of last week at the home of Mr. C. THEIS on Seventh street, Marietta. November 28, 1889 Mr. John MILLIGAN, of North Barlow died on the 10th, of paralysis, age 68. She came from Scotland when a boy and has lived in Barlow ever since. November 28, 1889 David DOSS, of Marietta, an engineer on the Ohio River railroad lately mand a narrow escape with his life by jumping from his locomotive, this fireman, Wm. TAYLOR, was killed by the accident which was caused by a land- slide. December 5, 1889 Mr. E. A. COLLINS, brother of Mrs. A. S. PERKINS, of Marietta, was murdered at his home, Mexico City, Mo., Sunday, Nov. 7, on his fifty-fifth birthday. December 19, 1889 Mr. Adam WILKING, aged 70, recently died at his late home in Marietta. December 19, 1889 Hiram CHAPMAN, of Stanleyville, died, recently. He was a veteran who served and suffered during the war. December 19, 1889 Mrs. Elizabeth STEPHEN died at her home on Seventh street on Monday of last week, at the ripe age of 90 years. December 19, 1889 Mr. Horance TIBBETS, who was recently married in Marietta, died at Pittsburg on Tuesday of last week of typhoid fever. December 19, 1889 Captain Robert Clarke BERRY, aged 49, recently died at his home in Marietta as the result of a second stroke of paralysis. the deceased was a soldier in the 77th Ohio and served his country well. Tuesday. 17th inst. Her remains were brought to Newport, Washington county, for burial, beside those of her husband Gordan BATTELLE, who was a native of Newport, and died in the service of his country in 18?2. (date unreadable) Jan. 9, 1890 Mr. John SKIPTON died at his late home, near Tunnel, recently, in the 95th year of his age. Jan. 9, 1890 Mrs. C. C. LYMAN, of Harmar, died Wednesday of last week after protracted illness. She was highly esteamed. BABCOCK, Esq., Harmar died at the beginnning of last week, after a long sickness of slow paralysis. January 23, 1890 Mrs. Samuel MILLER, of Warren township, recently died. January 23, 1890 Mrs. F. W. MORSE, who was but recently married, died at her home in Marietta, Sunday of last week, as a result of a brief attack of la grippe. January 23, 1890 Mrs. Samuel AMLIN died at her home in the east end of Marietta township last Thursday morning. She was a daughter of Mr. Charles ATHEY, who was formerly a prominent farmer of the same township. January 23, 1890 Mr. Solomon J. MURRAY was found in an unconscious condition, on the corner of Front and and Wooster streets, Marietta, Tuesday morning of last week and shortly afterwards died. Specific cause not given. January 30th-- The corner of Washington county as the result of an inquest as to the came of the death of Solomon MURRAY, lately found in a dying condition on the corner of Front and Wooster street, Marietta, found that the desceased came to his death from a hemorrhage of the brain, caused by excessive drink and exposure. January 30, 1890 Miss Kate GILBERT, of Belpre township, lately died at her home. January 30, 1890 Mr. Frank TYSON, after an illness of a few weeks, recently died at his home in Beverly. January 30, 1890 Mr. Mills BOWMAN, of near Cutler died suddenly, Sunday of last week, at his home of la grippe after a sickness of about a week. January 30, 1890 On Monday morning last Mrs. Mary E. GRAY, age 36, wife of John GRAY, a molder at Nye’s foundry, at Marietta, died from injuries received by her clothes taking fire on the preceding day. the accident occurred about 9 o’clock just after she had started her children to Sunday school, her clothes catching fire at the stove, when she ran into the yard, threw herself into a puddle of water, and succeeded in putting out the fire but not until she was so horribly burned as to result in her death as stated. February 6, 1890 Mrs. Eliza BRANDABERY died at her home in Decatur township recently. February 6, 1890 Mr. Wm. A. RONEY of Harmar, died Monday night of last week, of dropsy. February 6, 1890 Mr. Karl LORENTZ, of Marietta, who recently fell against a hot stove, has since died of his injuries. February 13, 1890 Lulu, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert PINKERTON, recently died at the home of her parents near Tunnel. February 13, 1890 Mr. Michael MORGENSTERN, aged 79, died at his home on Fourth street, Marietta, Sunday morning of last week of la grippe. February 13, 1890 Miss Lilly MEAGLE, in her 20th year, daughter of Mr. Fred MEAGLE, of Seventh street, Marietta, died, recently in Wheeling of typhoid fever. February 13, 1890 Mrs. Sarah MALSTER, wife of Wm. MALSTER, of Palmer township, died recently. She was born in Muskingum township in 1800, hence was 90 years old. February 20, 1890 Mr. Henry DECKER died at his home in Muskingum township on the 9th inst., aged 73. February 20, 1890 Mrs. Jane, wife of Mr. Henry BACHER, died on the 8th inst., in Harmar, aged 49 years. February 20, 1890 Miss Mollie, daughter of Mr. E. H. PALMER, of Barlow, died on the 10th, aged 18 years. February 20, 1890 Mr. Peter CLARK died at his home on Third Street, Marietta, recently of paralysis. He was 84 years old. February 20, 1890 Mr. Robert SMITH, of Warren township, recently died in the 85th year of his age, having been born in Maryland in 1805. February 20, 1890 Wm KING, aged 93 years, died at his home on Little Muskingum, on the 8th inst. During the war of 1812 he participated in the battle of Lundy’s Lane. February 20, 1890 Mrs. Louisa G. STEPHENSON died at her home near Marietta, Tuesday morning of last week. She was in her 82d year and had been sick only a short time. March 6, 1890 Mr. John FULTON, aged 79, a pioneer citizen of Washington county lately died at his home in Salem township. March 6, 1890 The third death at the village of Watertown within three weeks was that of Dayton PAYNE, aged 15, which occurred on Monday of last week. March 13th-- Dayton PAYNE, aged 15, son of William Payne, died at the home of his parents in Watertown, this county, one day last week, of pneumonia, the result of la grippe. March 6, 1890 Miss Mary CAMPBELL, of Bartlett, who had been sick about a month with pneumonia, caused by la grippe, died at her home Friday evening, February 28th. March 13, 1890 E. B. LIBBY, an old gentleman of Lawrence township, was found dead in bed Sunday morning. March 20, 1890 Mr. Luther P. ALLEN died at the Athens Asylum on Monday of last week. He was about 32 years old and was taken to the Asylum from Waterford township. March 27, 1890 Mr. James SCOTT recently died at his late home in Marietta township quite suddenly of paralysis in his 76th year. March 27, 1890 Mrs. Eliza DODGE GLASS, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the oldest daughter of the late John DODGE, the founder of Beverly, Washington county, died, recently. April 3, 1890 W. Hazlett CLARK of Marietta, died recently of consumption in the 45th year of his age. April 3, 1890 Mr. Charles LOVELL, son of O. M. LOVELL, recently died at his home near Malta, aged 40 years. April 3, 1890 Eliza ALCOCK, of Little Muskingum, a maiden lady, died Wednesday evening of last week at the age of 82. April 3, 1890 John BROWN, a noted counterfeiter, died at the Ohio penitentiary, recently, at the age of 81. He was serving his seventh term, all for the same crime. His parents were pioneer settlers at Marietta where, while still a young man, he entered upon his cirminal career. April 10, 1890 Mr. Henry PORTER of Warren township, died recently, aged 76 years. April 10, 1890 Mrs. Eliza ARNOLD of Watertown, died at the Woman’s Home at Marietta one day last week. April 10, 1890 Mrs Mary B. DOW, mother of Capt. David DOW, recently died at her home in Marietta, aged about 78 years. April 17, 1890 Silas CHESEBRO, aged about 60, recently died at his home on Fourth street, Marietta. April 17, 1890 Mr. C. E. ELLIS, in his 33d year recently died at his home in Waterford as the result of la grippe. April 17, 1890 the wife of Prof. METZLER, of Marietta College, died one night last week at the home of Mrs. KINGSBURY, on 5th street, that city. April 17, 1890 Mr. William SEEBEERS, aged 29, formerly a resident of Marietta, and well known there, died at the home of his parents in Zanesville recently. April 17, 1890 Daniel SCHNEIDER, living on Big Run, a mile and a half from Coal Run, who shot himself in the mouth with suicidal intent. March 18th with a shot gun, has since died as the result of his self inflicted injuries. He leaves a wife and two children in good circumstances. May 1, 1890 Charley CONDULE, aged 13, son of a farmer living about a mile from Barlow, fell into a cistern on his father’s place, recnetly, and was drowned. May 8, 1890 Mr. John CROSS, recently died at his home near Fleming, aged 83. May 8, 1890 William Henry ST. JOHN, son of R. W. ST. JOHN, aged thirty years, recently died of influenza at his home in Elba. May 8, 1890 Mrs. S. G. PAXTON, formerly of Marietta, died in Minneapolis, recently, after an illness of three weeks of brain trouble, brought on by over work and over taxation in caring for an invalid mother. May 8, 1890 James McDERMOT, born and raised in Marietta, recently died suddenly of heart disease in teh city of Mexico, where he has been in the service of the Camden Consolidated Oil Company. He had just removed his family from Marietta to the city named. May 15, 1890 Mr. George GANTZ of Liberty township, this county, recently died, aged nearly eighty. May 15, 1890 Mrs. Aaron EDGELL of Newport, recently died very suddenly. She was quite aged and had been weakly for many years. From early life she had been a consistent Christian. May 22, 1890 Mrs. Nathan CROY of Dunbar, recently died after protracted. May 22, 1890 Mrs. Michael O’CONNELL, and aged woman, died at his home at Dunbar recently. May 29, 1890 John STREMPEL, Esq., well known throughout his county, died at the home of his daugher, Mrs. Rob. ROUNDS, Green street, Marietta, on the evening of the 17th inst., at the age of eight-nine years. May 29, 1890 Mrs. Julia PETERS, wife of Phillip B. PETERS, Esq., died at their home, north Fourth street, Marietta, about midnight of the 17th inst., of a sickness resulting from child birth. She gave birth to a child about six weeks ago. June 5, 1890 Miss Kate LEONHARDT of Marietta, recently died in Cincinnati. Her remains were brought to Marietta for interment. June 19, 1890 Milford H., age 34, son of Hon. R. M. STIMSON of Marietta died at his late home in Cincinnati last week. June 19, 1890 Wm. MULGRAVE, an old soldier, died at his home in Marietta, Sunday of last week after lingering sickness. His funeral took place under the auspices of Buell Post. G. A. R. of that city. June 19, 1890 Wm. MORGAREIDGE, age 54, who lately died at his home in Marietta, had an honorable record as a soldier. He participated in the battles of Corrinth, Perryville, Ky., Stone River, Hoover’s Gap and Chicamauga. June 26, 1890 Mr. Victor TURNOR recently died at her late home in Newport, aged 66 years. He had been unwell for some days, but was not considered dangerously sick. July 10, 1890 Mr. Stephen A. DANA of Newport, aged 70, committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon of last week by hanging himself. He was a prominent and highly respected citizen. July 10, 1890 Miss Laura, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Valentine MORGENSTERN, died at the home of her parnets in Fultonburg, Sunday night of last week, of lung disease, occasioned by la grippe. July 17, 1890 Horance ADAMS, aged 50 died at his home on upper Third street, Marietta, last week. July 17, 1890 Mr. LEWIS, aged 86, proprietor of the Valley HOuse, at Beverly, died Sunday of last week. July 17, 1890 Mr. Jonathan SPRAGUE, father of Mr. Jasper SPRAGUE, of Marietta, died at his house opposite Coal Run, recently aged 87 years.
