Theora and her mother Louisa Jane Pottinger Steele went to Phoenix, Arizona for her health . Later Craig and Earl Pottinger followed to be with their Grandmother as their Mother had died in childbirth and their father soon after. Earl caught diptheria and died shortly after that. Craig went from Phoenix to Flagstaff and back to Phoenix then on to Nogalas. Always worked for Newspapers there and finally founded Nogalas International. Virgil a brother of Theora also came to Arizona and worked as a Railroader in Flagstaff. Theora married John Corrigan, she died in 1913 and is buried in Phoenix as is John Corrigan. Louisa also died there on a train trip from Flagstaff to Barstow Ca to see her son Virgil where she suffered a heart attack. She is buried back in IN @ IOOF Cem. Marion. w her husband Richard Greenbury and daughter in law Mary Alice Johnson Steele and many other family members."Inherited her literary tastes from her father and graduated with highest honors at the University of Indiana"

7. Josephine Boneparte Hawthorn, born Abt. 1836 in New Haven, KY; died Aft. 1877. She was the daughter of 14. James Hawthorn and 15. Blanche Parker.

In Mary Alice Steele's obituary her parents were Hiram and Josephine [sic Hawthorn [e]] Johnston. He lived in New Haven KY at the time of his marriage @ 23 yrs.[ Abt 1822 His father owned a Dry Goods Store in Bardstown< KY The family lived in Louisville, KY on Fremont St. and in 1890 between 8-9th on Chestnut. Near his death he lived with daughter Mary Alice and her husband Samuel Pottinger Steele, in Tipton IN. Abt 1900-1902 but certainly before 1906 when they were in Marion see Marion IN City Directory 1906-1907].* By 1908 they had moved to Houston, TX There is a tintype photo of James Hiram in possession of BSD.[ Witness to their marriage was Michel Donohoo and William Parker or Barker] Photo shows home on 409 N. Adams,Marion IN with inscription by AHS on back 1902-1908*\

James Hiram Johnson is from a huge family of Lewis' and Buford. back to 10th century see LDS files. Maternal side of the family. Mother: Nancy Buford Lewis married James Johnson both from Bardstown, Nelson Co., Ky. NBL is buried at Mill Creek Cem Bardstorn. Her brother Fielding Lewis m. Nancy Johnson a sister of James Johnson ?\

His death date is an estimate. Arthur Hogarth Steele[ Grandson] remembered going to his funeral and being very upset by his death as he was quite fond of him, he thought it was when he lived with them in Tipton, but there is no gravesite in Tipton with that name and I have not yet found him in a census or his death certificate, as of 12-2000 after continous search among archive cemetery records. There is one James Johnson buried in Jefferson Twsp, Grant Co,IN but has b. as 1821 d.1910 also there are other Johnson's nearby that seem to have no connection and the 1821 date is not right as he was 23 in 1855 at the time of his marriage in Bardstown. I do not yet have a date of death or gravesite of his wife Josephine Hawthorn Johnson either.
