Medical Center. Served as Governor of the Soldiers Home. He was a great 'tease' and likened to Teddy Roosevelt. He was written up in Who Was Who in America [I: 1175] and the Biographical Directors of the Amerian Congress 1774-1971 pg 1746. Also Biographical History ofEminent& Self -Made Men in the state if Indiana: History of Grant County, Indiana. Chronicles of Oklahoma After his many war engagements in 1869 he moved on to DrumBarracks, California, and afterward Tennessee. The HDQ., at NAshville, Tn where d. Meta was born. From there Ft Randall due to hostile Indians and back to General Davis , New Yok City. He was then intrusted a detachment of troups in Austin, Tx, The done he returned to Indianapolis and resigned the position ofQuartermaster in 1874 he built a pork packing establishment in MArion, IN. He rejoined theMilitary with his old regiment ans wassent to Camp Douglas, Utah, Salt Lake City. He was then made quartermaster in Ogden and remained untl 1875. Thus Major Steele added to his war record another 10 years in the regular army making a military career of 15 years. during which he traveled through nearly every state and territory in the Union.In 1876 re resumed his pork packing business and remained successfully in business for many years.
