NOKES and STOTTS in Kentucky

Matthew Lee Nokes (b. 19 Oct 1868) married Judie Moss Stotts (b. 25 Sep 1876) in Adair Co. on 20 Apr 1899. The couple had seven surviving children (William Oather, James Arnie, Barnie Lee, Mary Golden, Annie May, Roy Frank, and Oliver Fred) and lived in Cumberland Co., Kentucky, in the first two decades of the twentieth century. Matthew died 1 Jan. 1914, and the widow and her children moved to Adair Co. Judy died 21 Nov 1940 in Indiana.

Matthew had three siblings: a brother, James (m. Minnie Harvey) who lived in Cumberland Co., and two sisters, Sarah (m. Robert Harvey) and Mollie (m. Christopher Stevens). The four may be children of James Merion (or Marion) Nokes. There may be a Wayne Co, Ky., connection.

Judie Stotts had at least three siblings: two brothers, Lee R. and Frank, and a sister, Anna. Their father's name may have been Oliver. Many of the Stotts lived in or near Picnic, Ky., and Adair Co. generally.
