Notes for Olga Mathilda OLSON: "Olga Mathilda OLSON born Feb. 7, 1880, Saturday, in Town of Drammen, Eau Claire County. Baptized in Oak Grove school house where the church services and doings were held till they got the church built. She was confirmed Nov. 14, 1894. Had to quit school at age 13 as her brothers and sisters were vaccinated and she wasn't as they didn't want them all sick from the vaccine at once. She could have gone back at 14 but didn't want to as the others would have been a grade ahead of her. Mother walked at the age of 9 mos. and threshers thought it rare to see such a little one walk. Her mother would leave her with the dog in the house with her when she went to get the cows for milking on the Soner Grogar place, later John Huskelhus, Tom Dutter, Willard JACKSON, now Phillip Sessions farm owner and others. She helped with harvesting. Her dad would cut the rain with what they called a cradle and the children had to tie the grain bundles. They threshed it with horses going around called a sweeper. She and her brother, Henry would herd the cattle in the valley along the creek which was only a hole here and there so they could water the cattle. She went to work at the age of 19 in Eau Claire. Hollen was one place she worked doing house work. I think she got 25 cents a day and it was very hard work. She went westward probably looking for work and was at a drug store in SD July 4, 1903 where R. Nix, a German druggist born in Nebraska, doped her and got her into the back room and raped her and she got pregnant and April 10, 1904 at Crittenton Home in Spokane, WA. I was born. I was baptized at Butte MT. Mar. 23, 1905 she was married to Ole A. OAS at Minot, ND by Pastor N.A. LARSON and then they went farming. She worked hard raising calves, chicken, hundreds of turkeys, some ducks and geese, little pigs. Besides all the meals for all those hired men and chores, garden, flowers, pumping lots of water then they finally got a windmill which helped a lot. 1917 they built a barn 100 X 40 ft. which was a great help instead of doing chores in those old stables. One day I came home from school there was there telephone which I'd never seen before. Mother moved in with us in Jan., 1970 and lived with us till Feb. 1973 when she was bedridden and I was no longer able to take care of her. She then entered the American Lutheran Nursing Home in Mondovi, WI till Mar. 8, 1974 when she was taken to the Buffalo Memorial Hospital at Mondovi and passed away Mar 12, 1974 at age 94 yrs. 1 mo. 5 days. She died of cancer. Funeral Mar. 15, 1974, 1:30 PM conducted by Rev. Ronald Ruckman at the Drammen Lutheran Church where she was a member. She was a kind, loving person." Mrs. John L. LARSON
