Notes for Millie Florence Thelma OLSON: " I, Minninet Theodora OLSON, mother later renamed me to Millie Florence Thelma OLSON, born on Palm Sunday, April 10, 1904, early morning, at Crittenton Home in Spokane, WA, baptized at Butte, MT. I grew up in Hillsdale Township between Harvey and Martin, ND went to school and was confirmed at Hillsdale Lutheran Church, Oct. 26, 1919. It was snowing so we went with team and sleigh to confirmation. We, 13 in all, Olga Hei, Beatrice Wangen and Selma Wangen (cousins), Gladys Wolding, Nellie Montgomery, Mabel JOHNSON, Emmy Boe, myself, Bert Montgomery (Nellie's brother & Mebel's step-sister), Selmer SYVERSON, Melvin Loken, Oscar & Oluf Ingebo (cousins). Rev. N. G. Mehlen was our pastor. He lived in Jarvey. He retired and moved to Stanley, WI where their daughter lived. They both died there. We had school picnics and had our Christmas school programs at church with a tree and they always gave out apples to everybody. I went to school at Hillsdale School. I started at age 8 or 9 as I had 2 1/2 miles to go so they didn't send me earlier. One year we didn't have a school on account of teacher shortage. One winter I didn't go on account of too far and too cold. Many times I'd stay at Sigvart Wangen's overnight on account of bad weather and one night I stayed at Woldings. Back to my childhood on the farm. The first I can remember is when I was six years old Dad went to town, Harvey and brought his half-brother, Kristen A. Veraas (or later he went by the name Chris A. Weros.) I remember him getting out of the buggy. Dad drove a white horse named, King. Kristen was 16 yrs. old and I was 6 yrs old but that's all I can remember about it. By the way he came from NORWAY. How many years he stayed at our place I don't know. But mother told me he asked me what this machine and that machine was for and I'd explain it to him. i lived on the farm with my parents. 1922 I came to WI visiting relatives and went to work keeping house for my Uncle Henry T. OLSON. I liked WI so well I stayed here.
