8. JOSEPH5 CARMACK (CORNELIUS4, WILLIAM3, CORNELIUS2, JOHN1) was born April 11, 1763 in Virginia, and died November 1798 in Robertson County, TN. He married MARY MCMILLAN 1790.

as per "Two 1826 letters by Cornelius Carmack" provided by Mrs. Agnes Jones

"Your grandfather, Joseph Carmack was brought up in Virginia, was educated and married there, whence he removed to West Tennessee, lived one year in Sumner County and finally settled himself in Robertson County, three miles southeast of Springfield. He was a man of weakly constitution, subject to rheumatic pains which were increased no doubt, by unavoidable exposure in settleing in the wilderness, whence the hostile Indians were not yet exterminated. He was a man of moral habits, and I am informed, beloved at home and respected abroad, by occupation of a farmer and a surveyor. he departed this life sometime after the fall of 1798, a few days after the death of his oldest son, Francis McMillan Carmack, who died at the age of seven years. Thus was your grandmother left a widow with three small boys, the oldest of whom was not quite five years old, and the youngest about three months.
