Edward and Christiana SLAGLE Northcut were early pioneers of Scott County, Illinois. Both arrived from their homelands of Kentucy during the 1820's. Edward was married May 17, 1832 to Frances BOWEN in Morgan(Scott) County. They both had a James REDMAN sign as their gurardian. They are listed on the 1835 Il. State census with one daughter (Sarah Jane born in 1833) 0-10 years old. Nothing is known of Frances fate.

Edward and Christiana SLAGLE were married May 19, 1836 in Morgan(Scott) County, Illinois, probably near Bloomfield.

Edward was born in Kentucky or Virginia December 18,1815. He enlisted from McDonough Co. Il. in Co. J. Henry Regiment 1 st Il. Birgade Duncan as a private and served from 1831-1832 in the Blackhawk(Fox) War. He served during the Mexician American War, enlisting in Co. H of the 1st Il. Mtd. Vol. at Alton, Il. He served as a private from Jlune 25, 1846 to June 17, 1847. He also served in the Civil War, enlisting in Co. B, 10th Il. Regiment from Bloomfield, Il. as a private on Oc. 03, 1864 for one year. He died January 18, 1887 in Scott County and is buried in the Baker(West Rutledge) Cemetery on Bloomfield Road north of Winchester, Il in a grave marked with a Civil War marker.

They lived their first several years in Scott Co., exacty where is unkown, but probably in the Bloomfield area. On January 01, 1849 Edward purchased land in Pike Co. from the fedreral government. This land (72 acres) is about 5 miles north of Perry Il. on the Pike/Brown Co. line. By 1864 they must have been back in the Bloomfield area in Scott Co as that is where Edward enlisted from. In 1870 and later censuses, they were show as living in the Baker Cemetery area in Scott Co., Il. Farmer is listed as Edward's occupation on all viewed census. They had a total of 13 children in addition to the one from Edward's first marriage.

A great granddaughter of Edward and Frances Bowen Northcut, Viola Mae Franklin, married a grandson of Edward and Christaina Slagle Northcut, John Fredrick (Henry) Northcutt, in 1897 in Scott Co. Illinois. These were my grandparents. Therefore Edward was both my gggrandfather and ggggrandfather.

Nothing has been confirmed about his parentage except that James Redman was his legal guardian in 1832. Chirstiana's father was Peter Slagle born Nov. 17, 1776 in Rowan Co. N. C. Her mother's name is unknown.
