| PURPOSE OF THIS FTM WEB SITE: This Web Site has been established to aid family historians who are researching ancestors belonging to the Norfleet, Campbell, Mortier and Mayfield families. I will be happy to exchange genealogical and historical information with all researchers interested in these and/or allied families. OTHER FAMILY HISTORY WEB SITES I have personally designed and established three other web sites devoted to the Norfleet, Campbell and Mayfield families (a direct link to the Norfleet Site is provided above). All three sites are under construction; however, they already contain substantial genealogical material. Each site may contain a maximum of 11 megabytes (MB)of information. The site URL’s and the approximate amount of information the sites currently contain are as follows: Norfleet Site: http://members.tripod.com/~norf1666 (10.3 MB) Campbell Site: http://members.tripod.com/~philnorf (5.7 MB) Mayfield Site: http://members.tripod.com/~xtro1666 (4.1 MB) FTM GENEALOGICAL BOOK A fully indexed, genealogical book has been appended to this site. The book includes five genealogical reports that are basically family trees only; i. e., supporting documentation is included for only some of the relationships cited. These reports should be used as starting points only, to use in forming genealogical hypotheses. To prove these hypotheses, the user must provide his/her own supporting rationale obtained from family documents such as Bible records/memoranda, and from official documents such as wills, deeds, court minutes, etc. The ancestor numbering scheme used in the reports is that recommended by the National Genealogical Society (NGS). The five (5) genealogical reports are briefly described below. THOMAS NORTHFLEETE OF NANSEMOND COUNTY VA The Norfleet family in the United States seems to have originated from a single immigrant to VA Colony, Thomas Northfleete, who acquired 300 acres of land in Nansemond County along the northern bank of the Southern Branch of the Nansemond River, in the year 1666. Per the VA Quit Rent Roll of 1704, Thomas had four sons: John, Thomas, Jr., Christopher and Edward. These four sons define the four main branches of the Norfleet family in America. CAMPBELLS OF SOUTHWEST VA Two genealogical reports have been included regarding families who settled in Augusta County VA in the mid-18th century. Many notable political and military figures descend from these Campbell family progenitors. 1. John Campbell and three sons: Patrick, Robert and "White David" Campbell. 2. Alexander Campbell and four sons: William, Robert, Alexander and "Black David" Campbell. ROBERT MAYFIELD OF VIRGINIA Many of the Mayfield families in the United States appear to have originated from a single progenitor, Robert Mayfield, who migrated to Gloucester County VA as an indentured servant in the year 1652. The genealogical report depicts my current thinking concerning some of Robert's early descendants. JOHN MORTIER OF WISCONSIN The immigrant ancestors of this family are John Mortier and his wife Barbara, who migrated to the United States from Belgium in the mid 1840's. They settled in Jefferson County, Wisconsin near the village of Palmyra. THIS SITE WAS LAST UPDATED ON 17 JANUARY 1999. |
