His place of birth is in dispute. Three different locations are possibilities, according to LaForest. It could be either the city of Illiers, Departement of Eure-et-Loire and Diocese of Chartres, or the city of Dinan, in the region of Brittany, or Tourouvre, arrondesement of Mortagne, in the region of Perch. Marcel Fournier's "Dictionnaire Biographique des Bretons" lists Dinan, with his father, Joseph, originating at illiers. Jette lists Tourouvre in Perche.

! SOURCE: Nos Ancestres 3 page 98Francoise, Sister Sainte-Anne, born about 1659, became an Ursuline novice at 19, on 7 February 1678. She had trouble, it seems, in leaving the "pine grove" of her paternal home. She became the first Ursuline at Trois-Rivieres in 1697 and the second to die of a milignant fever, on 9 March 1699, when she was 40. The historian writes "Although small of body and slightly delicate, her great courage brought her to accomplish all." And Mother Superior Drouet wrote upon her death. :If the voice of the people is the voice of God, there was, upon the death of this dear sister, a very striking revelation of her beatitude; the whole town regarded her as a saint."
