Isadore Gravelle was born at St. Therese, Canada in 1816. In January 1841 he was united in marriage to Mattie Filotreau whom death claimed 26 years ago. Twelve children were born to them, eleven of whom survive, Paul I, Silas, Mrs Alfred Fillon, Mrs Isaiah DesJardins, Mrs William Brinker, and Miss Zephrina of this place. Asaph of Grand Bend, Ont. and Mrs S. DesJardins of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Theophile and Aristraque of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years and was highly respected by all who knew him. The funeral services were held at the home of his son Paul, Rev. William Mitchell of Kinde officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Colfax cemetery. In the last week of January 1841 and about three weeks after their marriage Mr. Gravelle and his wife, established a Presbyterian church near Montreal in the Province of Quebec, they being the first family in the Province of Quebec to break away from the church of Rome. Mr. Gravelle lived to see four generations of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grand children. One hundred and nine of his direct descendents are now living. Forty one of them attended his burial July 21st 1908. From Adrian March 2001: I can give you some of the exact birth dates for Silas and his family, and for Paul and Zepherine. The information is from the Huron County, MI birth records. There are also a few marriage and death dates. By luck, the lady who uses the microfilm reader next to me at the LDS Family History Center had the microfilms for Huron County. Note that several of the birth dates in the census reports are wrong by one year. The birth data for Silas is from Berube, Repertoire des Naissances, Mariages, Sepultures de 21 Paroisses Protestantes de Montreal Metropolitain, page 21; Ottawa, Le Centre de Genealogie, Publication No. 53, 1984; available at the Library of Congress, Local History and Genealogy Room, call number CS88.M68B48 (1984).
