My 7th great-grandfather Jacob Showalter was born in the Palatinate about 1702. He and his family immigrated on the ship "Brotherhood", arriving in Philadelphia 3 Nov 1750. They were Mennonites and settled in Northampton (now Lehigh) County, Pennsylvania. I am descended both from his 7th son Daniel Showalter and first daughter Barbara Showalter.

My 6th great-grandfather Daniel Showalter (1738-1822) moved to Rockingham County, Virginia in 1788. His fifth child was my 5th great-grandfather Joseph Showalter (1776-1838). His second child was Daniel Showalter (1802-1888), my 4th great-grandfather. He was a preacher at Trissels Mennonite Church near Broadway, Virginia. His fourth child was my 3rd great-grandfather Michael Showalter (1831-1905). Michael's first child was my 2nd great-grandfather Moab H Showalter (1855-1930), who moved from Rockingham County, VA to Washington County, MD in 1888. Moab's second child was my great-grandfather Alvey M. Showalter (1881-1977). His oldest child was Martha Grace Showalter (1910- ), my grandmother. She married Adam R. Martin in 1932.

Here is what I have. My brother sent me a copy of a letter that was
written to our grandmother's sister 47 years ago. It concerned the
Showalter family as related to us.

Reginald Showalter of Columbus, Ohio sent this. I will not write this
verbatim, but paraphrase.

He first states that early Showalters settled at St.Gallen on the
German-Swiss border in the 15th century. They were Mennonites being
persecuted by the Reform Church.

1749 the Showalters came down the Rhine to Rotterdam and set sail on the
ship "Brotherhood" captained by John Thompson;arrived in Philadelphia
on November 3, 1750. On board were Jacob Sr., Johannes, Christian,
Peter, and Jacob Jr. who had a son Daniel (under 12 years old).
